I am 4 weeks post-op and I still am not myself. I hate it. I recovered better from my last, I've had 3, c-section than I am from this. I still can't wear a bra because of where the main incision is. I have been wearing sports bras but even some of them rub. My incision is still tender. I get an odd muscle pulling feeling when I try to move in bed or push up from a seated position. I still brace myself when I sneeze, cough, or laugh. I still can't get comfortable in bed, laying on either side for too long causes my incision to hurt.
Ugh. How long does this take? It's so freaking frustrating.

I had two GB surgeries 5-1/2 weeks ago. The first was done laparoscopically at 5 p.m. Had they sent me home, I would have died. I ended up with a bleeding artery that took hours (and almost a total loss of blood) to figure out it might be a bleed. At 3 a.m. the next morning, they did exploratory surgery, found the bleed and gave me 6 liters of blood. I had four arteries (rather than the normal 3) going from the GB to liver, and the 4th artery slipped out of a clamp. I was in the hospital for 6-7 days, very sick, and became anemic from the blood loss/transfusions. All this aside, I felt as though I had a pulled muscle to the right of my belly button for several weeks afterward, but that finally went away. If I over-do things, that pain will come back. I've had no issues from not having a gallbladder. In fact, no one even mentioned side effects of that -- everyone was so focused on the bad stuff that happened. I haven't missed the GB!
Here are my current issues: (1) although I feel generally good, I do get quite fatigued if I'm on my feet too long, as in shopping at big box stores, walking around a lot, cooking, etc.; (2) the "big" vertical incision required for the second surgery is still very tender. Again, doing too much of anything physical makes it incredibly sore; (3) wearing clothes (bra, jeans, slacks) bothers the incision, so when I'm around the house, I wear a robe or soft workout clothes with an elastic waistband. And when going out, I try to wear loose-fitting clothes.
I guess all of this is to be expected after having two surgeries 10 hours apart (or even just one "open" surgery, for that matter).
I'm sure I'll fully heal eventually, but I'll never forget the fact that I didn't blink an eye at the thought of a laporascopic GB surgery, when in fact it ended up almost killing me. I'll never take a seemingly "simple" surgery for granted again, and I hope I never need one.

I am 5 weeks post-op and still having pain. I was told I probably lifted too much or coughed and pulled a muscle. I did some pumpkin carving the other day and now my whole entire abdomen is really sore. It goes across to the left side and the right side, behind and above my incisions (laparascopic surgery). Is this normal at this stage ? I need to figure it out or stop listening to all the people who said they were "fine" and "could eat whatever they want." I myself am taking Colestipol to stop the bile acid diarrhea and even that isn't working. I just can't tell if it is a muscular problem or pancreatitis or something. The pain is still hapnneing in the right shoulder blade and I have shingles scars there and it makes those scars sting. I dunno what to do, just rest? Hard to do. Have to work for a living.

I had gall blooder surgery 3 weeks ago. Almost all the pain has gone. I can bend & touch my toes. I carry my toddler who is slightly over 10 pounds. The only problem is that I feel exhausted very fast after short play time with our kids. From what I have been reading, tiredness also goes away after a few weeks. If you still have pain after 3 - 4 weeks that requires you to take pain medication. I suggest you visit your physician.

I'm curious to know how you are doing now. Is the pain gone? How much longer after the 4 weeks did it last?

This was posted over a year ago I see.. But I am going through this now. I'm wondering if you ever got that pain resolved? I'm worried I may have pulled or torn something.

I've still got pain from 2 incision sites, in my navel and the one about 3" down from my breast bone. Really swollen still, severe incision pain and it's been about 3 1/2 MONTHS!! My PCP said it happens.. I do suffer from high inflammation in my body, but this is so painful.....sitting straight up hurts, I'd prefer to lean back. They think I may have a hernia.
I have NO PAIN where my gallbladder was and I was having severe pain before, so I'm glad that pain had stopped, but this new pain is unbearable at times. Anyone else having these problems?
