My mother in law ( 88 yrs) has a bad chest congestion. she has a breathing difficulty at the moment and is short of breath the whole day. someone has suggested predisone alongwith antibiotics. can predisone be used for treating chest congestion?
I am a 31 year old female that recently had extremely bad chest congestion that resulted in bronchitis and bronchiospasms (like an asthma attack). It was horribly scary to not be able to breath. I was in the hospital three times. Finally what cured it was a shot of Prednisone followed by a steroid taper along with the antibiotic azithromycin.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE 31 YEAR OLD I'M 54 THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I'M TO STUPID TO NOT QUIT SMOKING . I HAVE HAD TO TAKE PREDISONE AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR FOR THE PAST 2 YRS. I GOT MY SHOT OF AZITHROMYCIN AND A DOSE PACK PLUS A SHOT OF PREDISONE PLUS A SCRIP. DECREASING STEROID STILL HAVE CONGESTION ABOUT HALF WAY DONE WITH THE PRED. HAS ANYONE FOUND A GOOD MED FOR THE CONGESTION? OTC

Yes it can take care of most breathing problems, disease and congestion problems...so can synthroid and hormones...estrogen is drying.
Mucinex 1200 mg pills will help clear the phlegm out of your lungs. You MUST drink plenty of water though.

Is mucinex over the counter?
mucinex does not help me much at all... I get chest congestion from sinus problems, it comes and goes.
Same here. Mucinex is worthless.
