Hi, I'm a 25-year-old gay male. I have had some relationships, but I have never had anal sex performed on me.

When I was 17, I was diagnosed with a form of ulcerative colitis in my colon and eventually, because medication never seemed to fix the problem, I had my entire colon removed. Since the surgery, I've been extremely healthy.

My question is this: Because I do not have a colon, would it be safe for myself to have anal sex performed on me? I only have a small intestine and things have always been normal since my surgery, except I use the bathroom more often (because I don't have a colon).

So, should I stay away from anal sex on myself or would it be safe?

A good question my friend! I have had bowel cancer and a successful operation so I now have a 'stoma' bag to collect my poo so my anus is for receiving gifts rather than delivering. The op was two years' ago and has not stopped me from enjoying multitudes of lovely anal penetration. Give you do not have a colon it might be better that you seek some specialist advice, maybe from a Gay website or your local hospital GUM clinic just in case? Hope things work out well for you..xx
