I strongly recomend Lo-Ovral. I have been on it, off and on, for 5 years. Remember ladies, birth control works very differently for everyone and you shouldn't judge a form of birth control by all the other blogs. Each person is different and it's ok to have a problem with different types of the pill. You have to find the right one for your body. I would rather gain 10-15 lbs, have bad acne (been there severl times), and heavy bleeding than have a child at this point in my life. Mind you, I am married but stuck on my goal of finishing college before having a family.

I have been on it for 1 week.... and I do not like it. I was on a different pill (Microgest FE) before and am switching back. I was never sick nor had side effects, even at start up, with my last one. LoOvral has been nothing but nausea, body aches, hormonal crying, and massive mood swings! This pill is horrible! Plus I have been waking up during the middle of the night and laying there with the worst nausea I have had in years. It was only worse when I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclene.

I haven't had any trouble with this pill at all. I had a lot of bad anxiety and mood swings accompanying my first birth control (reclipsen), but i've loved lo ovral. I haven't gained any weight (thought i'm not particularly prone to that to begin with) and it's helped a lot with keeping mood swings under control during PMS. I also haven't had any cramps since i've been on it, and i used to have practically debilitating ones. i definitely recommend this pill--but like the previous post mentioned, any birth control will have different effects on different people.

I've been on it for about a week and a half now; I've been getting the nausea side effect, but it isn't continuous- it comes and goes. I think it's too early to tell if I'm gaining weight. I am however starting to break out a little bit; I'm not sure if it's because of the pill or not because it already usually happens every now and then. Also, I started the pill right at the beginning of my cycle and stopped bleeding on day 5 of my period, like normal. But about 2 days later I started bleeding a little again and it really hasn't stopped. It isn't like a lot, but enough to have to wear a small pad. It's getting kind of annoying. If it continues into the second pack, I'll switch to something else.

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen for about 6 years and then one month my period started two weeks early and would not stop. I went to the gyno and she prescribed Lo Ovral. I started taking this and my period got back to normal but I noticed that skin was breaking out bad. My face was breaking out and my shoulders and back , it was pretty bad b/c I have pretty smooth skin. I didn't think much of it but when I started to gain weight thats when I had a problem .I have been about 122 since I was maybe 18 I am now 24 and I weigh about 132. This was a 10 pound weight gain in about 2 months. That was alot for me seeing I haven't gained weight in almost 5 years. I stayed on Lo Ovral for about 2 more months then quickly got off. I started taking Zovia and my skin has cleared up but I need to lose these pesky few pounds. I would not recommend Lo Ovral to anybody!!

This birth control is AWFUL! I gained a good 10 pounds in 2 months and was on edge with everyone. It put my hormones through the roof!! I was mean to everyone not on purpose I could not control myself. I did not sleep well....overall this sucks! I got on it because it was free and now I am back on YAZ which I LOVE even tho it is sooo expensive...but well worth the money to feel good!!

I've been on this birth control for about a year, and I love it. Before this, I was on depo and I gained about 15 lbs. from it. I lost the weight after taking it, and waited about 6 months before starting another birth control. This is the first brand I've tried, and the only problem I've had is minor weight gain (maybe 5-7 lbs. at the most). During the first week, I did experience nausea, but that subsided as my body got used to the pill. My period is short and light, and I experience no cramps.

I have been taking this for 10 years and it really helped me out. It reduced my PMS, shortened my 7-day period to 3 days, and cleared up my skin.

However, ten years later, I've decided that the one big side effect I do experience is not worth it-decreased sex drive. I want to change pills but I'm not sure what to try next. Does anybody who had a positve experience with lo ovral have any recommendations?

Any obgyn will tell you that it is very common for women to gain 10 lbs when taking birth control. I have been taking Lo Ovral for about a year and have not experienced any side effects. I did noticed that my cycle got on a schedule of 3 days after about six months, which I enjoy.

It all depends on the women. Some have said they gained weight, but i was just recently on lo/ovral and lost weight. But then again, i was sick non stop the whole time i was on them. blah. But whatever decision you make, goodluck.

I took lo ovral 10 years ago to control my periods as I was having excessive bleeding. I stayed on them for almost 3 years with no problems or side effects - actually felt great. The reason I stopped taking the meds was due to finding out I had a thyroid problem and the meds I'm on for that straightened out my menstrual cycle. After 7 years I am just now experiencing heavy flow and problems again. My thyroid is good, no fibroid tumors..etc, so I'm considering going back on lo ovral to control my cycle. Wish me luck...

I took Lo-Ovral for four years, and experienced weight gain, not as an immediate or cumulative side-effect, but as a sudden side-effect that happened once I had been on it for three years. I had been off of the pill for a few years, and at age 29, decided to go back onto it. Initially I was very happy on it. Then, at age 33, I suddenly put on about 10-15 pounds within a very short amount of time (within about a month).

This was with absolutely NO change in diet or exercise/activity level that would explain the weight change--as background info, I have always been very active and fit--running, walking, swimming or doing elliptical trainer at least 4 times/week. I also have always been a small-portioned eater and eat mainly fish and vegetarian. My weight always held steady around 110-115 pounds at 5'2.

Suddenly, I couldn't fit into any of my clothes around the hips and thighs (which is where the gain has been most concentrated). As a result, I upped the exercise, going running every day, and swimming often, and watching my diet to make sure that hidden sugars or other things weren't the real culprit for my weight gain--yet my weight didn't' budge. Not one bit. The weight I've gained has been virtually impossible to take off, and I am firmly stuck at about 125 to not-quite 130 pounds.

When I spoke to my doctor about it, he immediately said he thought it was Lo Ovral. Another doctor switched my Pill brand, in response to my concerns about this weight gain. I haven't GAINED since switching birth control (I haven't lost either--this weight is notoriously hard to take off through traditional means that seem to work for garden-variety "I ate too much/am sedentary" types of weight gain). Yet another doctor said that she really also thinks the Lo Ovral is to blame, since the gain stopped the minute I switched the Pill. I was told that Losing the Lo Ovral weight will be a different story, b/c switching off of it won't necessarily make you lose that weight. You will just stop gaining, whereas if you stay on Lo Ovral, your weight will just continue going up until you stop.

I personally recommend (so far) trying the Nuva Ring. Not sure yet if it is associated with any weight gain (every woman is different), but my doctor said that there really isn't the same association with weight gain that the Pill seems to have for some women. That's b/c the doctor said Nuva Ring is more localized and only releases hormones to your female organs, whereas, taking the Pill orally is like taking any systemic medicine, that can have side effects on many different body systems.

I hope this helps! Also, has anyone had the same or similar experiences w/ Lo Ovral and sudden or stubborn weight gain (despite no diet/activity changes, AND being a very healthy eater and being physically fit)?

I agree with Ravenmad - No one person can tell you how you personally will react.

Surprisingly I have been on this pill for more years than I care to admit but have never experienced any problems. My worry now is what will happen when I choose to go off it. I'm at the age of not so young & not so old but certainly don't want any more kids, mine are all grown adults now and I sure wouldn't want to to it all over again! So, I'm off to find a good gyn to help with clarifying what choices I might make & hopefully I'll learn enough to choose the best thing for me personally because that's what it is, personal, for each of us.

Peace!

I started lo ovral about a month ago and have had no side effects. Acne is not ALL from birth control...it could be the weather, sweat, or not cleaning well enough. Try rubbing alcohol on your back and chest if you get it there. About gaining weight; I haven't gained any...yet...which is what I'm most worried about but it is better then gaining 50 and having a baby! I used to be on Microgestin and Ortho Tri Cyclen and both of those made me a raging b***h and since I started Lo Ovral I have been very calm and happy. This birth control has been out there longer then most other birth control pills...that probably means something! I would recommend this to anyone. Everyone has different side effects!
