Hello,

Ever since I was a small child I've occasionally smelled a random 'digestive biscuits' smell. This happens when I'm not around biscuits at all, and have not eaten them! It's not actually a problem to me, but it's a bit strange and random and wondered whether there was any medical explanation.

Does anyone else get this?

Thanks in advance,

Hayley
like you say a bit strange! do you tend to get a headache soon after?

No, no headache.

ok just wondered as smells can be a type of aura that precedes neuro issues such as headaches / seizures. Sorry not much help!

I have the same issue and I don't understand why....it drives me crazy at times, but it also makes me crave biscuits:)

Thats really interesting. In the same way a smell can induce dormant memories because they are somehow hardwired together, maybe sometimes a memory or feelings brought about by something you are doing might unconsciously induce a sense that you are smelling something.

Did you find any reason?

Hallo,
You have to understand that this all is probably an brain reaction to something. In some cases there is a chance that you might have problems with some of your glands which might have problems with hormones secretion which is than noticed by the strange smell in your nose. You have to understand that it is hard to diagnose this without any tests done. I know that this is not a serious condition by in my opinion you should talk to your doctor about this in order to see what can be done to get rid of this condition for good. I hope that this helped you in any possible way.
All the best to you,
Karen

I also have the smell (occasionally). I have a testesterone injection every 8 weeks due to a problem with my pituitary gland. so I'm guessing it's hormone related.

I think you will find it's just Peg strolling past your house, going to the shop for some new Rubber Sheets.

HaHa very funny. The Peggot aka Peg cartoon. It wasn't digestive biscuits that he ate it was wagon wheels. Also it was cardboard sheets not rubber. Phew do your homework!! Anyway this digestive smell is very common and it has to do with what you have been eating. It's the scent of your sweat glands that are above your top lip. Certain Carbohydrates cause this scent. Nothing to worry about it just makes you crave for a cup of tea and s few digestive sweet meal biscuits. I'm shopping later and that's what I'm buying due to this post and some stamps.

Hi,

I also have the same smell only when I go out.

The only way to explain it is that it comes from the environment. Not my body. Someone is spraying a chemical that smells like biscuit.

Just checking, are you guys stil alive?

ME TOO!!! ... I am guessing hormonal & sweat related (certainly seems to be for me) ... i never had this until peri-menopause hit and i started to suffer night-sweats ... it only happens at night for me ... day time & hot flushes do not trigger this result ... but smells more like malted milk to my nose ... underlying cause (ie menopause) may not be the same but possibly hormonal fluctuations?? Strange, but until i read your post had never come across or heard about before so i don't feel like the only sweetly smelling weirdo in the cookie jar

Hello.

The symptom you described could be related to hormonal fluctuations during peri-menopause. Hormonal changes can affect various aspects of your body, including sweat composition and odor. It's not uncommon for people to experience changes in body odor during different life stages, such as menopause.

Sweat itself is odorless, but when it comes into contact with bacteria on your skin, it can produce various smells. Hormonal changes can influence the composition of your sweat, and this may result in different odors. Additionally, certain medical conditions or dietary factors could also play a role in the development of unusual body odors.

As you mentioned, you are not alone in experiencing unique changes in body odor during menopause. Many people go through similar experiences due to the hormonal shifts during this time. Nevertheless, seeking medical advice will ensure that any potential underlying issues are addressed properly.
