Hi everyone. I was laying down trying to go to sleep and suddenly my heart began to race very rapidly and I felt as if I was going to lose consciousness any second. I got up and walked around and then layed down again. I finally calmed down but it was so strange because it just happened so randomly. I am somewhat of a hypochondriac and lately I have been afraid that there is something wrong with me. Could this have been a panic attack? I wasn't worried about anything before it happened and it just made me scared. I am a 14 year old boy of that tells you anything. I will gladly take any responses if anyone knows what this is. Thank you.
Hello Cameron,
At 14 years old, I doubt you have to worry about any heart problems. Experiencing a rapid heart beat or flutter is common and many people experience this from time to time throughout their lives. Sometimes the heart gets out of sync with itself and contracts too rapidly. This rapid contraction corrects itself quickly and is gone. Your feeling like your were going to become unconscious is just a fear response due to anxiety. Your not going to lose consciousness. The next time it happens just take a big breath, hold it, and then let it out. I think you'll find that the rapid heart beat (flutter) stops right away. Just try to be calm and relaxed.
Thank you so much for your feedback. I have been having chest pains and stuff but I suppose that is just because I am growing and going through puberty.
