Hi

I've been fitted with custom orthotics having undergone 2 months physio for runners knee. During the physio I gradually increased usage of the orthotic and then started running in accordance with the physios instructions. I am now on my own so to speak and in training for a marathon. I am up to 8 mile on my weekedn long run, hoping to do 10 this weekend. Whilst the orthotics seem to have not caused the old injury to return, I am noticing some mild discomfort on the inside of one knee and bottom of the thigh on both.

I suspect this is the body adjusting to the new alignment, but wondered if anyone else had similar probs ? I don't want this to be something that builds up to the point of putting me out of the race in three months time ..

Any advice much appreciated
Hi, I was fitted with orthodics awhile back too. It was a few months after I started running and it was because of a pain in my ankle. They worked great for a couple weeks until I started having a pain in my right knee. I figured out what the problem was though. Some how running on the track and continuously going in circles hurt my knee. So I started running outside more and that fixed it. This year I've been running on the track though and haven't had a problem. So anyway just a thought, my guess is it's not the orthodics that are the problem. It's most likely the running surface. Where are you running?

I'm running on either road or towpath, kind of noticed less of a problem on the towpath in terms of the aches and pains, which I'm guessing you would expect.

Its difficult to say whether it is improvig as I seem to go from a minor injury to blisters to minor injury, but without tempting too much fate I think it is getting slightly easier - guess I'll find out tomorrow as got a 10 mile run planned.

Thanks for your comments

Yeah, hopefully it'll get better soon. I think I remember getting a few blisters when I first had the orthodics too. Let me know how the 10 miler goes :D

If you have any pain you need to call the DR again, and possibly get refitted. Any slight adjustment in the orthos can cause your whole body to feel it. Your feet can cause a chain reaction through your whole body including your up to your neck.
