Have to embrace the fear of the recovery. My recovery was a ton worse than I had thought it was going to be. Pain pills would work for maybe 40 mins every 4 hours, and then I was left starring at my wall in pain, not being able to sleep, eat or drink because of the congestion. Im on day 4, got the packing out yesterday and have to say that it still sucks, but it's 60% better with the packing out. Hoping it will have been worth it, but on day four right now I wish I still had never done it. Sorry if this made you not get the opt but this was a nightmare.

Day 4 of recovery for me after FESS, Septoplasty and polyp removal. Recovery has been smoothe so far, congestion is expected of course but no pain to call home about. I've taken 2 panadol daily and that has been quite enough. I was lucky enough to not have much bleeding at all afterwards. Only thing to really complain about is the c**p running down the back of my throat which I'm still trying to pretend tastes like icecream ha ha. I spent weeks looking up septoplasty recovery and had myself convinced that I'd be in pain and miserable for at least 2 weeks but so far so good so please, if you are going in for this surgery, TRY NOT TO BE AFRAID!!
Don't put yourself through unnecessary stress of worrying about recovery. You will recover. It will be over WITHIN 2 weeks and the surgery has a 90% success rate!
Look for the positives! I've been able to eat as normal, shower as normal, and enjoyed a wonderful cup of coffee day after surgery. (I am also a smoker so I thought I'd suffer more from that but so far so good!)
Apart from the tiredness, which is usual for me, I could return to work today, but won't!
Good luck everyone! It's definitely not as bad as I had resolved myself to think it would be so I hope it isn't as bad for you either!
Oh! Take LOTS of vitamin c. Also sweet potato helps very much with mucous membranes so just make sure your eating healthy and resting and let your body do what it is supposed to do!

I'm on day 3 post septoplasty with turbinate reduction. Oh boy did this suck. I've had worse surgeries including bone work on my leg and polinidal sinus which required hospitalization but the discomfort with this one has been the worst by far. First night was basically no sleep even with codeine. Nose was packed and it made the sinus pressure very intense leading to my eyes and face swelling. My front top teeth were tingling from the pressure of the swelling as well. My nose dripped blood constantly which required me to go through gauze like tissues when you have a cold. When I removed the packing after a day the pressure release was great and I had to do a saline rinse a few times a day which I can't tell if it's actually doing anything. My nose feels very stiff And i can't smile. I'm also experiencing a burning sensation inside my nose which I assume is from the saline reacting with the tissue. I'll probably call my dr tomorrow to make sure this is normal since I won't get a follow up for at least a month.

I had my surgery done on 1/12/16 it has been 3 weeks now. At first I felt great but now I feel like I have a infection. If you have ever had a sinus infection you know the terrible smell you get, well I have it had it for 4 days and after a trip to the ER still nothing. I have still been having discharge from my nose that is pretty disgusting. Wondering if anybody has any information or input on this. They have finally started me on antibiotics. Has anybody else have a result like this from post op? Thank you for the help.

I felt a little better and had air going through my nose. but now my nose is completely congested and having trouble sleeping. still blood comming out my nose. I hope each day it gets better and better. I feel like blowing my nose so bad.

For saline spray, try using syringe without needle. Just fill it up with saline and spray in your nose keeping it few cm away.

14th Feb - I had Septoplasty with Turbinectomy
17th Feb - Got packs removed
21st Feb - Got splints removed
24th Feb - Resumed work

If everything goes fine, two weeks are enough.

Hi,

How long did it take for your ear pain and headaches to clear

I had this procedure done this week and today is day three. The first 24-48 hours were rough. I had a deviated septum due to a fall where I broke my nose. Today I feel much better even with the splints still in. Because my bleeding has nearly stopped I was released to take Advil. That and Hydrocodone gets me out of pain.

I am sure this is worth it, but there moments where I'd have opted for a healed crooked nose. Lol. With the external splint on as well it's been difficult to wear my glasses. For those who are going to have this surgery and are fearful, remember that the pain and discomfort won't last forever and know that you will be feeling better with each day. Ibuprofen will help with swelling and pain but be sure to be cleared by your doctor before taking it. Be careful if your taking Tylenol and Hydrocodon because Hydrocodon has Tylenol in it. You don't want to take too much.

Keep elevated even when sleeping. I slept sitting up on my couch which wasn't easy at first but eventually exhaustion just takes over. The headaches were bad and I found a low lit room, soothing music, and a cold compress helped relieve the discomfort a lot.

Take care and pray also.

Hello everyone! I'm sure glad that I found this forum last night and could read everyone's stories as I had my septoplasty and turbinate reduction done today! I came out of surgery with a wicked migraine that has been hanging around all day and of course feeling like I was punched in the nose. I was trying to clear the back of my throats this afternoon and inhaled one of the packing tampons right into my mouth and spit it out!!!!!! What the heck I was shocked as I wasn't e en clearing that hard. The packing comes out tomorrow so I sure hope I have t hurt anything! Anyways here is to what I expect to be a restless night. Talk to you all tomorrow. --- Tracie

I has septoplasty surgery 7 days ago. No complications from the surgery but I was in extreme pain (throat and ear) for 5 straight days. I was on RX pain medication and it helped to control the pain but did not eliminate it. Additionally I was unable to get more than a few hours of sleep each of the last 6 nights - could not breath through my nose but only through my mouth. This morning I had the stints removed and there was absolutely no pain involved in their removal from my nasal canal. I can now breath through my nose albeit still somewhat reduced due to swelling. I'm still taking medication to control the pain in my throat and ear but expect by tomorrow to be completely off of it.

Of course you saved money going abroad... that's an outdated way of doing a septoplasty. You should've had splints in your nose (no packing) for a week, with almost no outside swelling or problems you describe. The splints have tubes in them so you can breathe (as long as you irrigate them to keep them clear). The sensation after the first day should be more like major sinus congestion than anything worse. I'm glad everything worked out for you, but it's scary to read stories of people who go abroad to get medical procedures done in an outdated way.

Had rhinoplasty, septoplasty and turbinate surgery 4 days ago. It's tougher than I anticipated but you get through it. My Dr. gave me 0 instructions and told me to remove the packing myself after 48 hours. That was unpleasant lol. Like 8 inches of slimy bloody gauze that is stuck to your nose hairs and goes up to your brain. Haha. Felt good after though to feel the air flow through the nose. Have yogurt and mash patatoes on hand to eat. Someone with you for the first 48 hours is a must. Tylenol. Q tips to clean out corner of eyes and baby toothbrush to scrape teeth first couple days. That's all. It's hard but it's not cancer. Be mentally strong and push through. It gets better relatively quick. I'm feeling good now, just watching TV. Oh yeah, I had terrible eye burning after waking up. Run into the bathroom and rinse your eyes with your hands. I think the cast leaks into your eyes and causes burning. That hurt. Ok I'm out. Do it, don't be a cry baby!

Then yesterday, Wednesday I had the packing removed, and I thought: ''YES! im dont, im fine, now I just need to rinse my nose'' but im in much more pain now, inside the nose, outside the nose and my front upper teeth hurt as hell! has anybody else experienced severe tooth pain?
