Don't put yourself through unnecessary stress of worrying about recovery. You will recover. It will be over WITHIN 2 weeks and the surgery has a 90% success rate!
Look for the positives! I've been able to eat as normal, shower as normal, and enjoyed a wonderful cup of coffee day after surgery. (I am also a smoker so I thought I'd suffer more from that but so far so good!)
Apart from the tiredness, which is usual for me, I could return to work today, but won't!
Good luck everyone! It's definitely not as bad as I had resolved myself to think it would be so I hope it isn't as bad for you either!
Oh! Take LOTS of vitamin c. Also sweet potato helps very much with mucous membranes so just make sure your eating healthy and resting and let your body do what it is supposed to do!
I'm on day 3 post septoplasty with turbinate reduction. Oh boy did this suck. I've had worse surgeries including bone work on my leg and polinidal sinus which required hospitalization but the discomfort with this one has been the worst by far. First night was basically no sleep even with codeine. Nose was packed and it made the sinus pressure very intense leading to my eyes and face swelling. My front top teeth were tingling from the pressure of the swelling as well. My nose dripped blood constantly which required me to go through gauze like tissues when you have a cold. When I removed the packing after a day the pressure release was great and I had to do a saline rinse a few times a day which I can't tell if it's actually doing anything. My nose feels very stiff And i can't smile. I'm also experiencing a burning sensation inside my nose which I assume is from the saline reacting with the tissue. I'll probably call my dr tomorrow to make sure this is normal since I won't get a follow up for at least a month.
17th Feb - Got packs removed
21st Feb - Got splints removed
24th Feb - Resumed work
If everything goes fine, two weeks are enough.
How long did it take for your ear pain and headaches to clear
I am sure this is worth it, but there moments where I'd have opted for a healed crooked nose. Lol. With the external splint on as well it's been difficult to wear my glasses. For those who are going to have this surgery and are fearful, remember that the pain and discomfort won't last forever and know that you will be feeling better with each day. Ibuprofen will help with swelling and pain but be sure to be cleared by your doctor before taking it. Be careful if your taking Tylenol and Hydrocodon because Hydrocodon has Tylenol in it. You don't want to take too much.
Keep elevated even when sleeping. I slept sitting up on my couch which wasn't easy at first but eventually exhaustion just takes over. The headaches were bad and I found a low lit room, soothing music, and a cold compress helped relieve the discomfort a lot.
Take care and pray also.
