Ahh very comforting to know that I an not unlike anyone else in that sleeping, eating, breathing, talking even laughing hurts like billy-o
Im' day 5 post op and still in pain, got the blue splints of death and very very sensitive end of nose. I think the stitch is tight.
The worst aspect is the smell of rotting flesh. My wife suggests I have an infection but I cannot tell. all the pre-op literature suggested it was very unlikely now one of my nostrils dries out overnight I get around 10
minutes of breathability which is great, but the dead rat smell is awful (sickening in fact)
does anyone else experience this ?

I had my septoplasty and turbinate reduction done 10 days ago. I still had the raw flesh smell until yesterday. I also have some swelling and congestion. Overall, my experience went very well. I was extremely scared to go through with the surgery, but after I was finished, there was nothing to worry about except for the recovery. I go back to work tomorrow. I think the worst things for me were no exercise and I couldn't eat crunchy foods. I was also out in the sun for about 30 minutes yesterday and when I came back in the house, my nose bled just a little bit. The doc says I can exercise tomorrow, but I suspect I won't be at the same intensity as before the surgery. I am thinking it will take 2-3 weeks before I can exercise moderately. My pain was also minimal, but I took my meds religiously for the first few days. Other than that, I feel like I can breathe better now. My main reason for the surgery was chronic sinus infections, so I am hoping they get better too! Good luck!
I had my septoplasty done 5 days ago and had my splints removed yesterday. I have been having really bad tooth pain that radiates to my head on a tooth I had a root canal on. Has anyone else experienced this? I also feel that my noses looks like it is turned up compared to before, did anyone else who had this find that it resolved itself or does it stay looking like that? Thanks, for the info!
I had my Septoplasty surgery done 5 days ago and I am having a difficult time due to not being able to breathe through my nose most of the time and I am having alot of allergy syptoms such as the swollen sinuses, itchy eyes and quite a bit of sneezing yesterday and today. when Im lucky I can breathe for a few minutes out of one nostril at a time, this alternates between nostrils. The only thing that seems to help sometimes very slightly is the saline sprays. I will to go the Dr. tomorrow and he will clean out my nostrils, hope I can gain some of the normal breathing pattern back in my nose afterwards? I didn't have any packing at all, only the stitches so I was told that my breathing wouldn't be badly affected, that I would just be slightly stuffud up, but that is not the case. I am under such stress and praying that I can breathe soon. It has been comforting reading the posts from other people on here. best of luck to everyone who is still on the road to recovery and to those that are still going through the process!

I have my Septolasty, turbinate reduction, and endoscopic sinus surgery yesterday. I felt better the yesterday than today but overall not as bad as I had expected. The splints are a pain and the stiches are sore and my nose is tender and I can't breath but the pain hasn't been too bad yet. I will start with the sinus rinse soon and hopefully that will help and will get the splints removed in a week.
Apparently I had a bit of an infection when they did the surgery so not sure if that is going to cause problems for or not when recovering. I haven't been able to really sleep and the meds seem to work ok and have a bit of an upset stomach.
It was great reading the posts as it helps reading about what other are going through. My attitude is pretty good right now and I hope that continues, I plan to go back to work on Monday and we'll see how that goes.

I just had my septoplasty and turbinate thing done today. So much bleeding in my nose and down back of my throat. Really freaking me out. I called doc and he had me pinch bottom of nose to the point of not being able to breathe but not painfully for 10 minutes and he also had me rinse my mouth with 3/4 peroxide 1/4 water which got rid of the blood pooling in my throat and roof of my mouth. When will this bleeding stop? He also told me to use Afrin 2-3 time per day in addition to the saline nasal spray.
i had septoplasty done about a week and half ago, my nose is red raw now inside and out, im still bleeding and i got this foul smell of almost like rotting fish, is this normal or is it infected??? my nose dont even look strait, did they do it properly??
I will being gettin a functional endoscopic sinus surgery soon im not sure if it includes a septoplasty but my septum is deviated and the surgeon said that they will put a graft in my nose as its crooked.. Im very nevous after reading some of the posts
Fairy Goddess, I'm afraid you're in for some rough days. I'm on my 4th day of recovery and it's been brutal. However, I have found some simple remedies that are helping pain management.
Taking regular warm showers has helped the headaches enormously. I also massage my head in the shower and it feels great for headaches. For the earache and the aching teeth, I've been sucking on fruit flavored ice pops. They are very soothing.
Also, I've noticed that the percocet only lasts for about two hours, then wears off. The more you use the drugs, the less effective they are for pain. I've been cutting the pills in half and taking a half every other hour, so that it stays in my system and keeps the pain at a manageable stage.
Prop your head up to keep the pressure off your face, keep spraying inside your nose to keep it moist, drink lots of water,
keep a humidifier or misting machine on in your bedroom to keep the air moist. I'm also sleeping with a heating blanket and that's comforting.
Those are my pain relieving tidbits. Good luck to you all. It's a sacrifice, but the end result will be worth it

I am writing this let future users know that the procedure need not be as painful / eventful as many people above have stated. And to give confidence that thing need not always go wrong.
I had Septolasty and turbinate reduction around 3 weeks ago. Was admitted early morning on the day of the operation. The operation was done around 11hrs and was out by 21hrs the same day. yes, there was slight bleeding and Sore throat. I was sleeping almost the whole day mainly because of the anesthesia effect. The Pack was removed after two days - painly but surely manageable. Endoscopic cleaning was done in after 2 more day and Was back to work in full force before that.
Now its less than 3 Weeks over, I am checking for allergy, etc. My breathing is surely better (but not as much as I expected :-) ) maybe it will improve further.

I'm two weeks into recovery now. I heartily recommend this for all our Congressmen and Senators! They deserve it!
So far, things are going slowly and much drainage at night makes sleeping difficult. Friends who have had the same thing
tell me to be patient! I'm trying! Netty pot helps briefly. I don't believe in pain medication but have found that German beer
helps more than U.S. beer. My doctor could have prepared me better for what to expect. No fun! My best advice is if you have
a choice, the dead of winter is not the best time for this! Anyway..........................

I am on my third day post op and am in a lot of pain. I had a septoplasty, turbinate trimmed, and I believe a partial rhinoplasty. My sinus' are so swollen and painful, lots of bruising under my eyes and of course my nose. The amount of pressure on my face is making it impossible to sleep. Did anyone else experience this?
I've tried showers, ice packs, pain meds and propping myself up. No relief yet. Will tomorrow be better?

I just had a 3 procedure surgery to fix my deviated septum yesterday, apparently it was one of the worst my Dr. had ever seen.
I'm overjoyed already. I'll skip the surgery, since it went okay. I did get several injections of morphine, however.
3 PM Home - Not extreme amount of bleeding, but enough to constantly change gauze.
5 PM - Finally ate after ~20 hours. I think that was making me nauseous.
8 PM + - Take my Antibiotic.
For me, the worst experience so far is trying to eat.
I do not think I have been this irritated before, since I am supposed to be on a 4k calorie diet.
Trying to swallow, or even drink water... That has become a difficult endeavorment as well.
And my school starts in a week.
A tip for everyone out there, talk to your Dr. about the post-op care as much as possible,
trust me, it will help.
I have not taken my pain medication (Vicodin) as of yet.... I only wish there was a pill for the discharge
in the back of throat... I can't eat ='(
Anyone have any advice?

Septoplasty and turnbinate surgery yesterday. OMG, post op so far has been rough. Throat on fire due to the breathing tube, bled thru mustache dressings for 12 hours and got a total of 2 hours sleep last night. Tylenol with Codeine helps for the first hour and a half but just as something that eases the pain, doesn't take it away. Upper palate is numb, my teeth hurt. Weird.
Still have lots of bloody mucus, sometimes bubbling noises inside the nose (ewww, that is gross), I didn't get any saline for washing the nostrils, can anyone tell me exactly how to do that? I'm needing to do something/anything (short of blowing my nose or sticking something up there) to relieve the plugged up feeling and get the mucus moving out.
My nose is really swollen and looks like it's leaning over to the left, cannot tell if it's going to be straighter after the swelling goes down. I have splints until Feb 8 and I guess I'm not really going to feel the benefits until they come out.
Argh, I wish I'd read all these posts before surgery, I feel like I am so unprepared for how difficult this recovery is. My doc (who I love) didn't exactly let me know how bad it could be.
