My nose looks very different. I had a Septoplasty and turbinate reduction 20 days ago. The pain was very bad when the pain pills would wear off but other than that just a stuffy nose and general discomfort. I can breath much better and the doctor says that I am healing perfectly. HOWEVER, my once perfectly pretty straight nose now has a big dip in the middle of the bridge. It is not obvious to people who never met me before but my husband, family and friends can tell. The doctor said it happened because he had to loosen my septum so much to get it straight. Before the surgery he said it was a VERY small chance that this could happen. He has a nice big "sorry about that" for me.
I had the surgery for daily migraines and in 20 days I have had only one tiny migraine. So that being said, I am pleased to have my life back perfectly straight nose or not. :) I would only recommend a surgery like this if you HAVE to have it.
I, too, have TMJ. After a long dental procedure last month, I developed trismus (sort of like lockjaw), but could not take the anti-inflammatories necessary to correct it until after the sinus surgery. Doc says I can't take them yet---bleeding risk still too high. Trismus was (and is) very painful and created a real problem when talking or attempting to eat. I was afraid that it would cause a delay in my surgery (breathing tube has to fit in there somewhere). I told the anesthesiologist about it and he said that the muscles nearly always released when under anesthesia, and if they didn't, he could give me some muscle relaxer through the IV. I honestly don't know if he gave me any or not, but for a couple of days, my jaw didn't hurt as badly (could be the pain meds too).
All of this is to say--you could have trismus triggered from the length of your surgery. It could also be referred pain from the sinuses. And honestly, 2.5 hours is a long time for someone with TMJ to have their mouth propped open, so it could be that alone. I would definitely talk to your ENT about it. Good luck with it. I feel your pain and hope it resolves quickly for you. It's amazing how much jaw pain can affect your daily life!
I believe the tmj is slightly better now thAt the sinuses have opened up. The original problem was due to bruxism although I wasn't aware that I clenched during sleep. Anyway, I see the dentist in a few weeks and will discuss a night mouth guard. Was this ever suggested to you? The good nes is that the packing is out, splints out in 5 days, and I can breathe and blow my nose! Things we take for granted......
I was sent to a dentist who specialized in TMJ problems probably 15 years ago for a night guard. It made a huge difference for me! It creates a shift in your bite while at rest that stops the clenching. I didn't really intend to (and am not sure it's the best thing to do), but I began to make that shift myself, without the guard. After a year or so, I no longer required the guard. I have observed that, when under increased stress, I subconsciously shift my jaw even while awake now.
Best wishes with everything!
my Doctor told me little if anything as my primary doctor told me the diagnoses and i told her after she took a cat scan and nothing showed but it was right there.
going crazy now laying in my recliner waiting for healing but as the woman said swelling can take over 4 months and that's what my primary doctor told me.
Lets pray it doesn't take that long but it may.
it goes from that to all over my face and the back of my head to the back of my neck and have been to the hospital and they did a cat scan and shows nothing wrong.
I had a fractured nose and no one saw it on a cat scan so she had to go in without that help and then found the fracture and asked me who hit me with that much force?? IDK I am not one to go get punched in the nose.
My regualr doctor says it's probably swelling and ENT says nothing as her and i have problems with each other as she is a smart ass.
It has been 34 days so far ad i can't find relief only in the morn when i wake up until about an hour then it starts as a small headache and progresses into a huge pain in my butt.
Does anyone have any idea what could be doing this as septo plasty was the do all end all for headaches it is said.
I am afarid to function due to the progression will go faster.
thanks Mike
