Thrombosed means only that there is a blood clot inside it. That's what makes it hard and painful

My first bm post surgery was like child birth. I knew to ask for pain meds and cream from s dear friend who just did this. This is day 13, and the first day I didn't feel raped. I opted for the strong meds (although allergic) and Benadryl for allergic reaction. Anything to keep me knocked out and horizontal. I have a high threshold for pain, as I live with fibromyalgia. Most people would never know. This has humbled me and put me out. In the future I would tell everyone to eat liquid diet, and fruit shakes plus fiber a couple days before, and no meat several days before. Be clear that you want the strongest numbing cream ( $60 but worth it), and strongest pain meds, and bath salt. Have the water, fruit or juice plus, stool softener, silium, plenty of your favorite types of soup, plenty of clean towels for the loads of hot bathes.

Be wary of overdoing the fiber. It can cause very large stools. You need to drink loads of water to keep everything soft and use moderation with the fiber. More is not better when it comes to fiber supplementation.

I am posting for one reason,  I read alot of recovery stores and they terrified me.  I read these after I had my surgery scheduled and almost cancled it several times,

I had problems for years, had to GP Dr's tell me they were the biggest rhoids they ever saw.

I am 3 days Post surgery.  I had Scalpel hemorrhoidetctomy.  Most were internal one external (not sure of exact # as have not had a followup yet to talk to dr non drugged).  The biggest was about 1" diameter.

I have had pain and discomfort, not near what i feared, yet.   I have kept up on my meds, taking the pain killers every 4 hours wheather I am in pain or not.  I hope to start backing off in a few more days.  I take motrin with them to keep swelling down.

For 2 years I have taken citrucell twice a day, I kept this up during all of this,  I also added miralax.  I started once a day 2 days before surgery and twice a day after.  I have had 3 BM's since surgery, each has been a little less painful.  Very little blood after my first BM.  All BM's been soft and a bit painful but not what I feared.

I would say my pain so far as topped out at a 7, I have had as much discomfort as well as pain.

I plan to be of work 1-2 weeks - if things change I will update this.

Though it was only flairups, the pain and discomfort I had over teh 15 years I dealt with Hemorrhoids is very close or equal to the pain I am having now.

One last note, my surgery was done at a colon and rectal center by a colon/rectal surgeon vs a general surgeon, this was my decision, as when I talked to him, he told me things that could go worng, but said he has done 1000's of these I liked that better then a general surgeon that has done 10's of these

replying to my guest post, think I'm registered now. Overall I'm improving. Cut down on Miralax as I was thinking I was having too many BM's too loose, so after asking nurse cut back, one dosage a day (down from two). My last BM the actual BM there was very little pain, afterwards OMG - lots of iteration burning type pain, not sure if is a result of too loose/soft stool or just the nerves on the outside. Cannot stress soak in hot/warm tub after BM - this has really brought relief. And go when you feel the urge, do not put off and off.

I remember reading other reviews that this was the worse pain people had in their life and it scared me, after thinking, yes at times the pain is close to the worse - but it is short lived a few minutes tops, right now I feel 50% of the time no pain, 30% slight/low pain, 15% medium pain and 5% (or less) OMG pain. So it is little pain followed by moments of OMG.

Just a note, I have kept a log of what meds I take when, then added BM's and pain / blood levels now I added what foods i'm eating, I have not changed my diet much, but over all am eating less, just cause I'm laying around doing nothing do not want to eat lots. Prior to surgery after I worked out was not unheard of for me to eat a lot, but I also burned 500-700 calories running and working out.

Still have not decided when I'm going back to work, original plan was Part Time after 10 days. If I could control my BM's to be in the AM at home, and none in the PM and could arrange a reclining working position Im sure I could go back, but cant really soak in the sink at work after a BM. But that is still 5 days away a lot can change

I was told when looking it can look like the hemorrhoids have returned, the doc told me this is just swelling of the tissue and they need to leave the tissue if they take too much when healing the anus can get tight/smaller if they do not leave extra tissue. I have seen these small ones on me (not nearly as big as what was removed) and if I touch the area (gently) I can feel they are softer not hard like my rrhoids were.

Patient can walk around, after 5 -6 hrs Patient can be discharged within 24 hrs On discharge antibiotics and painkiller for 3 to 5 days are advised. You can go for most advance Minimally Invasive Procedure for hemorrhoids (MIPH) is STAPLER Surgery with minimal pain and faster recovery.

Been reading here. I am 4 days post op. Doc said my roids were biggest she has ever seen.I have been bleeding so bad for years due to hemmroids .Enough to drop my iron level to 9! Anyway I had 3 removed and I am in pain. Spastic colon too. But, I believe I could NOT have done as well without my bidet!! Got it for christmas. You can get them with heat and even a dryer! The main thing is get one that you can adjust the water pressure because you will want it on low! has a good rated (by reviewers) as low as $59 and trust me , mine was 6 times that but I would give up my car or anything to have it! I am so glad I had the foresight to get ine ahead of my surgery! No trying to get in and out of the tub all day long. No sitting in your own mess, no wiping, and I run mine constantly when Im on the toilet! Makes BMS easier too! PLEASE! If theres one thing you do, get a bidet!! Some plug into the wall, others dont. They all sit right on top of your existing toilet!! Make it easy on yourself! Im in pain but its killing me reading what you all are going through!

Now 9 days post surgery. Still in a lot of discomfort. Internal and external hemorrhoids here. Lots of tissue was removed from me. Having a lot of trouble peeing yet and bowel movements are still very painful. However nothing compares to the first post op bowel movement I had. That felt like razor blades coming out. The discomfort has gotten better each day but it is far slower that I had hoped. I am a truck driver and have been for over 30 years here. I was hoping to return to my job after 2 weeks following surgery but right now am not sure if that will happen yet. I suffered with this for about 20 years and had external hemorrhoids that I usually was able to push back in most often times with bleeding involved and at times very heavy bleeding. Still having minor seepage but that has gotten better with each passing day. With all the past surgeries I have had including open heart, hernia, back and knee surgery, this has to be the most painful surgery a person can ever go through. I am a 54 year old male in Iowa that also has asthma and emphysema. Yeah I get winded taking a bowel movement here. I am taking it a day at a time here and crossing my fingers that I will be able to return to work very soon. I drink lots of water and really have not gotten back to eating normal yet. Best wishes to you have either gone through this or will be going through this surgery.

Thank you so much to everyone for posting your experiences. I am at 3 weeks post and was starting to get worried that I am not all the way better still have pain - although it's much better - it is very reassuring to see this is a common experience

Hi there!  I am new and 8 days post op.  Does anyone know when the external swelling, which looks like hemmies, goes away???  Are these what have been inside and are now dying??  I had a hemorrhoidectomy for internal and external piles and the surgeon didnt come around after surgery for me to ask any questions.

Hello everyone I have spent all day reading other peoples stories on here and boy I almost had a panic attack after seeing some nightmare stories, but I'm glad I read everything I did, I'm now mentally prepared and know what to expect! I'm also thankful for all the tips posted I will definitely be using them! My surgery is scheduled at 930 so 8 hours from now, I am 21 and I have three external hemorrhoids I've been dealing with since February of 2014, enough is enough. I am excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm hitting the hay for now I will come back with an update post op! Wish me luck!

Day 3, I have had a great recovery so far, pain is not bad, I'm taking Advil with ibuprofen, that takes care of any pain, I took a Percocet the first day but I ended up having urinary retention for a couple hours, but eventually I was able to urinate again, that was day 1, day 2 minimal pain starting to eat a little bit more, day 3: this morning woke up and had my first B.M it was not fun, it was painful but not as bad as others seemed to have, I took a sitz bath afterwards, then I took a bag of ice, and put it in my buttox, defiantly helped with the soreness, hopefully next BM won't be as bad.
