I see there is still some activity so I'll add my experience. I am a 54 year old male of average health, fitness and healing ability. I choose a board certified plastic surgeon and board certified optomologist considered as one of the best in the east coast.
5 weeks post op from upper and lower bletharoplasty and I must say that I am now finally starting to feel normal. The first few weeks were very unsettling. Never extreme pain but lots of discomfort from mild to severe. I had some complications with chemosis in the left eye which as I found out is not that uncommon.
My profession keeps me glued to the computer and I still cannot get through the whole day without my eyes growing very tired to the point that they hurt by 4PM. I am told that I my eye strength and endurance should be back to normal over time.
I am fortunate to have family that was very supportive and some coworkers who were understanding. Otherwise, I dread to imagine the ramifications caused by this lenghty recovery. Oh, you will be able to resume daily activities at 10 - 14 days post op but not at peak performance, NO WAY!!
The results may all be very worthwhile but carefully consider the length of recovery. This procedure was more than I had anticipated or bargained for but luckily we all have the ability to forget the pain and discomfort over time.
To those who are undecided you must read the comments and experiences of all from days to months post op as they are wildly different. Make an informed decision, don't look back or second guess whatever you choose to do.

Anyone considering thi suregery should really take time to review all the posts. At this time all the bruising is gone, and there was a lot. Day two was scary i was not warned it would look like I went a round with a boxer and LOST terribly. Red, purple, and that icky yellow orange bruises were on my cheek and up top my brow. The scars on the upper lids are still sensitive, and very apparent if I close my eyes but concealed if they are open. There is a small part of the scar beyond the lid extending towards my ears and that shows and will need some revision. If I rub my eyes at all I get a small sharp pain. I can not locate exactly where it starts it just a quick stab. I wear glasses and I work on the computer all day. My glasses hurt after just a few hours. The fatigue I get is causing a mild headache daily, I just want to lay down and close my eyes. All in all I am happy I did it and my eyes look better and will only improve asthetically. I really did it because my eyelids dropped so bad that I was loosing my peripheral vision and I looked like I was always depressed, crying, tired and never got enough sleep so anything is a improvement.

Hi All - I had upper and lower done exactly two weeks ago. I will admit I was shocked when I took a pic of myself right after surgery. I had a lot of dark purple bruising below my eyes. I was shocked because I had no pain. After a week I had no bruising and looked normal. I think it is most important to find a good surgeon. I am thrilled with my results. I had very heavy lids, so skin was removed. I wouldn't discourage anyone from this procedure. I still have dry eyes, but expect that to improve with time. My dr is available 24/7 to answer questions.

I had my surgery about a month ago in Thailand . The surgery went very well , hardly any bruising , up and about 5 hours after the op . It all depends on the patient and of cause the pre op planning is vital . Research as much as possible, and find the correct surgeon!!!!!

I am eight days out from my upper eyelid blepharoplasty and filler injection in bottom eyelids. I have the same bruising seemingly dripping down from my eyelids into a "v" down onto my cheeks. While it is fading, it actually seems to be harder to camouflage today with makeup than it did yesterday, but that's probably just my technique. I do think I'm about over the worst of it and that it will be worth it, but you do need to allow some recovery time.

I had lower bilateral transconjunctival bleph for hereditary bags and I was not prepared for the purple eye. I say eye because one is actually pretty good, but the other looks horrible...it is purple, red, yellow, brown all the way down to my cheek...I am at 4 days post op and going back to work tomorrow(yes I should've asked for more time off)....I will do my best with concealer but I will probably have to explain myself lol...I have a lot more swelling on the bruised eye too. So the more swelling on the bruised eye is probably due to more fluid/blood being trapped. I called my Dr. and he told me the one eye being excessively bruised is probably because he started with that eye and the epinephrine didn't kick in enough to halt the bleeding. So yes depending if the Dr. waited long enough and used epinephrine with the numbing shot prior to surgery will make a drastic difference in the amount of swelling and bruising. I have one eye good and one bad to prove that is the problem! I am 39 healthy as horse, very active and fit. So if you choose to get this done ask the doc to use epinephrine with the local and have him WAIT ample time before he starts.

Wondering how you are doing now, a year later. I just had blepharoplasty 4 weeks ago, and am terribly uncomfortable, and am wondering if I will ever be alright again. Are you back to normal yet? Can you give me details about your recovery? I am still numb in my face, terrible bruised, and feel a great tightness around my eyes. And this is much better than I was last week! Can you give any information about the time that it took you to heal?

Upper or lower blepharoplasty? I'm guessing by your wording it was upper? I had upper. Yes lots of brusing but it looked worse than it felt. I had little pain. Healed nicely, looked great! That was 3 years ago, Btw. I was out with friends with make up covering bruises 3 days later! NOT supposed to do that, but I did. And I looked awesome. I was 43 y/o at the time, not a young pup that heals fast. BUT everyone heals differently. Just eat healthy before you go in (and always), follow all their instructions, ice up afterwards for swelling, keep head elevated on pillows, sterilize as directed and you should be good to go!

Important, I do not think anyone specified: Did you have TransCONJUNCTIVAL (cut inside lower lid, no stitches needed) or a TransCUTANEOUS bleph (cut under lashes outside lower lid, stitches)? Big difference. Transcutaneous takes way longer to recover from and way higher chance of complication. I went "cheaper" and made the mistake of transcutaneous. I'm 2 months post-op. Still droopy, "rounded" lower lids. Scars still have to be covered with make up. I can get by but I did NOT sign up for the shape of my EYES TO CHANGE. This was for minor puffiness under eyes. I wish I'd never done it!
Transconjunctival is the most "modern" technique and way less invasive. No scars, only some bruising, no Frankenstein stitches. I highly recommend this method. Might cost a little more but WELL WORTH IT. Transcuteneous can take MONTHS (like 6) to get back to normal, if you are lucky enough to get back to normal! The docs do NOT TELL YOU THIS. They act like it's easy-breezy. It's not!
And P.S. Upper lids heal much quicker then lower, and upper are less risky. Lower is VERY TRICKY. Go to an Oculoplastic surgeon. They only do eyes. I learned a lot AFTER my procedure, and a key thing I've read is: Eyes are the MOST CHALLENGING plastic surgery. No margin for error. Choose your doctor wisely. God bless!

Witchhazel and cotton pads over the eyes worked good for the brusing and swelling for me. Doc said to get Tucks pads, but all that is is over-priced, very dulluted witchazel. I made my own pads with a bottle and cotton pads
