My husband got ringworm on his back about a year to 1-1/2 years ago when he stayed at a hotel on business. He thinks he got it from sitting on the sofa in his room. The doctor prescribed prescription-strength Lamasil and it went completely away.
Now here it is well over a year later, and today I noticed that the ringworm is starting to reappear on his back again. My husband always wears at least an undershirt (tank-style) or an undershirt and work shirt. All of his towels and undershirts are washed in hot soapy water with bleach. We don't understand why the ringworm is back as he hasn't really been anywhere.
Is it possible for ringworm to stay dormant in the body and reappear after a year?
I also want to add that my husband has psoriasis which he uses Taclonex for. I don't think ringworm has anything to do with psoriasis, but I thought I would mention it, just in case.

I have been reading a lot about people mistaking nummular eczema, also know as nummular dermatitis, for ringworm. People also can get recurring ringworm from their pets. People with compromised immune systems, and diseases like diabetes, PCOS, etc, will be more susceptible to recurring fungal infections. Some people use Tea Tree Oil, or Lamasil. Be consistent. I also wonder if ringworm can stay dormant and re-occur, if it is happening in the same place?? Would love to know!!

I, too, received a diagnosis of ringworm February 2014... on my back. I'm female and always wear a shirt. I took the prescribed medication and used the topical cream. It seemed to have cleared up. Several months ago I noticed my back was itching again in the exact same spot. It started with a small bump (as before) and has spread with severe itching. I'm wondering too if it can lie dormant. It's very strange.

I am a wife/mother of three who has been dealing with my wing worm situation since 2014. The first occurrence of us discovering wing worm was with my son. We noticed two in his head. The doc suggested it could have been obtained from school with the many germs that kids float around with nowdays. She gave us an oral prescription and a cream. We took him to get a hair cut and discovered about 13 of them in his head. Where it could have come from, and how long it had been there, we had no idea. I'm grateful we caught it when we did. It took 2+ months to clear up before he could go back to school. Ever since then, it has been cycling throughout the 5 of us in my home. After always constantly cleaning and sanitizing every inch of the house, clothing, etc., it began to become a problem between me and my husband and our time together. I was not understanding why it was not going away. I discovered it had nothing to do with cleanliness, so I calmed down from becoming a nervous wreck and focused attention where needed. I googled some things and found out that yes, wing worm can lie dormant in your system. I believe this is exactly what is going on in my family. Many visits to our family doctor always results in the same outcome, same medication. I'm convinced there's really nothing we can do about it, except to continue to attack it as it arises. We have no pets and no other medical conditions, except asthma ,that is. I'm still hoping to find an answer as to how to rid it from your system. On the natural side of things Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar(w/mother) has become a "regular, must have" item in my household. I use it in addition to the medicine provided.
