I had much of the same situation happen above, and was told that I have Myofascial Pain Syndrome, with extreme pain caused by Trigger Points. This could be in addition to the other problems you already have. This can cause extreme pain, and can go for many years mimicking what feels like a "pinched nerve" etc. Anyway, you can try reading about it, it is interested to research how the muscles can be damaged and cause just as many problems as your skeletal system. Goodluck

Hi , I was in a car accident in 9-30-2012 (rear ended by a young girl who I think was texting). I had pain in my lower back and right leg. My doctor scheduled me an MRI. It showed bulge at S1-L5, L5-L4, L4-L3, and a small bulge at L3-L2. My back surgeon said he could not see doing surgery. He said he belived there was more involved. SO he had a bone dentsity test and complete spinal alignment xray done of my back. From what I gather from my ( can not give source) my bone dentsity xray was a mess. Showed the before mention issues as well as deteriating disks and vibrates in the lower back with arthritis in both hips and middle of shoudler blades. Lots od pain in my right hip , across my lower back and minor pain on my lfet hip. Nothing working . I am open to suggestions

Same thing for me except it's on my lt. side. Pain in my Lt. buttock/hip and down my leg. Ortho MD said it was my back, and back specialist said it was due to my hip. MRI/CT inconculsive. Spine specialist gave me a cortisone shot in my Lt. hip area, where ever he gave it, it hit right on the spot. Felt the shot go in and it hurt like he__. That was over a year ago. Couple of month's ago Ortho MD gave me a shot of cortisone but it didn't hit the "spot", now pain is back, can't sit for any length of time, sleep on my Lt. side, pain in hip and down my leg. Problem is now I have no health insurance for anything. Tyenol and Motrin do nothing for the pain. Currently unemployed and trying to get a job. How do I work with this much pain. Any suggestion's are greatly appreciated

I'm lying here and it's 10:40am (uk), I've hardly slept all night because the pain just doesn't settle. I stand up, sit down, walk, try to drive, anything I do, even day to day living tasks, showering, washing my hair, trying to cook, if I can afford food that is after being off work for months, it all causes immense pain! I've had horses all my life and can't help with them. I was a care assistant caring for the elderly with dementia and I loved my job but it was to physically demanding on my back, I started to get pain in my lower right back, I was still able to work, but I did have to change my job which was heart breaking. After only being in my new job for a few weeks, I was in a road traffic accident, nothing major (or so it may of seemed at the time) but they hit the front of my pride and joy and I saw it coming,so I tensed up and sat right forward in my seat shouting no, then he hit me (in his stupid big range rover) I was thrown back in my seat and then dived out of my car to see the damage. I went to A&E the night it happend with neck pain, but that is gone and forgotten. The day after, I woke in the morning to an incredible pain in my right hip, could hardly put weight on it, so I went back to A&E and had an X-Ray on my hip, they found nothing. It's been 8 months since the accident and all this has destroyed my soul and spirit! I'm not the same person anymore, because having a debilitating pain can change a person. The same as a lot of you on this thread my pain is in my lower right back, it radiates slightly up my lower back and around down and in to my hip area, into my lower buttock and into my groin, it's also sometimes goes down my leg. All this pain is on the right hand side. But I've had it for a while now and I think because my other side has been carrying more weight and compensating for my bad side, I believe it's starting to dysfunction too. I have not seen anyone on this thread (unless I missed it) mention the sacroiliac joint, even thought we all have a lot of the same symptoms. People PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE research into this, because this joint in the lower back can cause a lot of problems. My physio and doctor both agree the this is what is wrong with my lower back. But I've been stuck waiting for the other sides insurance to sort me an appointment with a back specialist, they made me wait 7 months to see if it would get better, it's never been as bad since the crash, something about the crash has really upset it, I could work with my mild back pain before the accident, I'm now struggling to live normally, but I'm finally seeing a specialist in 3 days :) I will probably cry when I see him. But again people PLEASE research SACROILIAC JOINT DYSFUNCTION.......I hope this helps,
Jessica xx

Off and on, for awhile (Not exactly sure how long. At least a year) I will get pain in my Left Buttock, hip, groin area and down my leg. I am, currently going through a bad bout right now. It's, actually, hurting all the way down to my foot.
I do a lot of walking (Mail man). Last week I had a pretty bad fall. Skint up my right knee pretty bad. I can't realy remember how I landed, but a few days after that my left foot started hurting. A day or so after that the same Left buttocks, hip, groin, thigh pain returned.
So I'm thinking the fall triggered it. My wife thinks so. This is, by far, my worst bout yet. Hard to walk or sit. Only get real relief laying down. My lower back doesnt really bother me, so I'm not really sure what's going on.
Have you guys found anything togive you any kind of relief?

Did you ever solve this? I have the same thing going on, getting worse each day, and I'm starting to limp at times. I really hope you got it fixed!

I have similar situation been struggling since 2009. Don't know who to see. You could try Ortman Clinic--canistota,SD they helped me once through this but back to problems since November of 2010. How was Mayo clinic no help?

I have exactly the same symptoms but have yet to see a Doctor. Am afraid that no one will be able to find the problem and don't want to be visiting Dr.'s to no avail. Am getting very depressed with the almost constant pain and sometimes can barely walk.

I responded with left hip, butt, thigh, calf,ft pain.the MRI shows extra lumbar disc,l5-s1/herniated,bulging...YET NO ON WILL DO ANYTHING.I'm a veteran, one of the many who gets overlooked, abused, neglected and ignored.
What do you suggest,my quality of life, due to increase pain 98% down to 65%.......my medication was stopped the doctor didn't like it,although I'd been on the same regime 14yrs for multiple reasons of pain, unable to use Tylenol,N-said and some medicine cause adverse response.
This issue has been 11 months without any compassion concern or medicine t decrease the pain.
HX:fx left hip 3yrs ago,fell 4x since.

For the initial thread starter, pain like that sounds like it could be a herniated disc, as someone else mentioned above, or it could also be Sciatica. The Sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. As such it is also very susceptable to pain and damage. This damage can be caused by anything as simple a back injury. The one thing all of the damage usually leads to is a condition known as Sciatica which can cause severe pain, numbness, and other unpleasent effects to occur in or near the affected area.
Whether the pain is from Sciatica, or from a herniated disc, etc., cold therapy is always beneficial. It will not only help relieve the pain, but it will also bring down any inflammation that is present.
I also recommend, for any of you experiencing back/hip pain, taking a look into the BFST back/hip wrap (blood flow stimulation therapy). I work as a treatment adviser for a company that deals with soft tissue injuries, and I hear of similar symptoms every day. This wrap promotes circulation, which brings nutrients and oxygen to help accelerate the healing process. Blood flow is most essential for healing. The nutrients and oxygen it carries will help mend any soft tissue damage and will add elasticity and lubrication to prevent further damage. I use the back wrap myself as I struggle with scoliosis quite bad. It won't heal my case, but the increased circulation really helps relieve my pain. Hope this could help someone out there.

Everything you say I can relate to,I felt my right knee clip and a shooting pain that lasted only a few seconds, happened every few weeks for about a year until 6 months ago when the pain didn't go away, the pain is in the lower right side near the hip, down into the groin and in the knee.
Wanted a couple of weeks and went to my chiropractor,he did the usual couple of adjustments that were out and said he thought I had a torn tendon in the knee, went back a week later and he said there was nothing more he could do so I went to my GP,he sent me for CT of the lumbar spine which showed prominent degenerative change in L5/S1 apophyseal joint and a forward shift of L5/S1.
he also noted A 29X26MM prominent arachnoid cyst arising from the right side of the spinal canel at the level of the S2 vertebal
body..
Pelvis and hip xrays showed a few age related problems but nothing to account for the pain..according to the doctor..
Ultrasound of the right trochanteric region reported CHRONIC RUPTURE OF THE GLUTEUS MINIMUS AND MEDIUS INSERTION WITH FLUID AND TENDERNESS IN THIS AREA ..
So I think okay we have found the problem, lets get the tear repaired and the pain will go away, not so,I had waited and collected my own xrays and report so I could see it straight away, got into see my GP the next day,he didn't even want to look at the xrays just looked at the report and said how the hell did you do this?
I replied I haven't done anything to do it,my last accident was 16 years ago ,I asked for a referral to a orthopaedic surgeon but he said no lets try Perineural Prolotherapy for 6 weeks which consists of approx 20 needles into the lower spine/hip area,it's a theory that relates to inflammation of peptinergic nerves,it didn't help at all, last week saw him again and asked for a MRI he wanted another week to do some research on the muscle/tendon that is so swollen and painful on the inside of the right groin, went back yesterday and he had forgotten to do the research asked me to comee back next week..
I have pain or discomfort 24 hours a day, pain killers and inflammation tablets help but they make me tired and listless and upset my stomach,
Because I live in a small seaside village it's impossible to change doctors without a 2 hour drive and then there's no going back to the local medical centre, will go back next week with fingers crossed,it will be 10th visit.
Thanks for reading ...

i hope you get an answer to this soon. It brought tears to my eyes I am also going through a period of severe hip groin back pain and no one seems to be able to figure out what is wrong with me either. I just hope I can be as strong as you have been. My prayers are with you.
