I'm 46 and had minimally invasive total hip replacement surgery in December 2009. Felt amazing the first month and change after the surgery but over the past 8 months or so it'sgone from bad to worse. Just to get up in the morning, I have to take a hydorcodone an hour before I even get out of bed, and that's barely doing it anymore. The x-rays are fine and I am waiting for the year to get closer so they can do a bone scan. When I walk, or bend over or twist almost any movement that is at the hip, you can hear it pop or crack, it sounds like a bike shifting gears. I've been reading through everyones stories to see if they sound smilar to mine and looking for solutions. So thank you for your stories and anyone else who has any impput would be greatly appreciated.

I had hip replacement in August 2010, but right vafter I was fine but after 3 months I am beginnning to have pain in my lower hip. When I sit for periods of time and then get up and walk its exscruciating until I walk a little distance then its OK. As long as I walk or dont sit for periods of time I can get on down the road. I dont take meds cause I feel like a pharmacy now so I live with it.

Hello. My name is Olivia Taualupe and I too had gone thru a total hip replacement. After three month from surgery, the back of my legs to buttock area would cramp up and the muscle on the bad leg would spasm to where i had to stand there and until i feel some comfort and quickly find a chair to sit. Pain was so severe that i wasn't able to perform any cleaning or cooking...anything to do with standing for 5 minutes. I would limp so badly that i thought, this would be the way i walk forever.I found a solution to this madness by accident. I went to a garage sale and found this high heel with open toe. At first i was a bit hesitant in buying this high heel because i have never wear one and i might fall and dislocate my hip again but decided it was too cute and must buy it. I got it for $3.00 and to my astonishment when i wear my cute heel, i felt no pain and the walking felt so good on my leg. I wore that heel every single hour of the day for 3 months and it broke. Make the story short, i figured out that because the heels make you walk on your toes, it strengthen the muscle that needed strengthening and took all the weight from my front thigh where it use to cramp the most. Its been 5 months now and not a single sign of limping, cramp or pain and i can now walk bare feet or with normal regular flat shoes for months pain free. My legs has gotten really strong and "if" i feel any pain (rarely) i would wear my heels for a day and back to regular flat shoes. It's a blessing to me and i want to share it with anyone. You will know the right height of the heel because the minute you put it on, you should be able to feel comfortable and pain free. If you have any question, feel free to email me at _[removed]_ RE:PAIN AFTER TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT.

WHAT YOU HAVE JUST EXPLAINED IS THE EXACT THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME. I DID LIMP VERY BADLY AS IF I DIDNT HAD ANY TOTAL REPLACE.PLEASE BUY A HIGH HEEL SHOE AND IF YOU HAVE NEVER WORN ONE PLEASE LEARN HOW TO WALK WITH IT BECAUSE IT SAVED ME. YOU WILL KNOW ITS THE RIGHT HEIGHT BECAUSE THE MINUTE YOU WEAR IT THE ALL PAIN YOU HAVE MENTIONED WILL ALMOST BE GONE AND YOU WILL FEEL LIKE YOU WILL NEVER TAKE A WALK WITHOUT THE HIGH HEELS. The amount of money these companies make is just crazy. They should provide better products! These go inside peoples bodies...

The FDA reported that companies such as Johnson and Johnson / subsidary of DePuy Orthopedics and others have issued a voluntary recall of it's hip replacement systems.

If you have had a hip replacement you are most likely eligible for large compensation.

Here is a great resource to help you get the compensation you deserve.

I am 51 years old and had a hip total hip replacement on the 26/8/2010 so it's nearly 7 months.the day of my surgery it took them 4 hours in recovery to get my pain under control.I spent 4 days in hospital and was on morphine ,Oxycontin and endone.2 oxy a day at 20mg and 10 endone a day at 5mg.when i came home i was still on the same dosage except morphine for 8 weeks.then as the weeks past i cut down the endone to 5mg 6 a day.Within 4 months i was down to 2 endone & the oxy.then about a month ago I started getting a lot of pain like i hadn't even had my hip replacement. The pain is in my thigh at the top of my left leg where the scar is.My surgen said it takes about 18 months for it to heal but other people i have spoke to who have had this done after me feel no pain.Has anyone had this problem

Hi, I had a THR in Sept 10/03 and I too woke up with excruciating pain After my surgery and having had 4 more surgery from piriformis release to an abscess infection in my thigh ,hip revision(liner replacement) ,went to the mayo clinic which suggested another THR which I didn't do instead I had another cup revision instead . And the pain continues just as with you when exersicing ,standing and walking. I take lots of pain meds but they hardly work when the pains gets really bad. I have tried everything from acupuncture ,chiropractor, phyiso and a Pain Dr. And nobody can help but the pain continue.....but you sound like me , sad but true!

HI,
I seen my surgeon yesterday and he said he thinks it's bursitis which some people get after THR so he gave me a steroid injection in my thigh and told me to go for a walk up the road and come back .He asked if it was any better but it was actually worse.I am in worse pain today then i was.He is sending me for a MRI on my hip to see whats going on.I am having that on the 21st April. I Am getting sick of it .I have had this pain for 6 years and now it's as bad as before the surgery.I can't lay on that side and I am sick of taking pain meds.
I feel sorry for you and everyone else that has this problem.... Margaret

   Hi,
I am glad I found this site as I am suffering from severe pain after my hip replacement which was done in May of 2009. I had a series of twisting the socket, which is very scary. I have had xrays done and the surgeon tells me everything is fine, which it is not.
My pain is on the side and behind the incision and extends to the buttock. I have now developed a limb length discrepancy which I did not have post surgery. Prior to the replacement I had almost a one inch difference, the leg on the bad hip being the shorter. This is frightening because I know it is only a matter of time before this becomes more pronounced.
I have a sense that there is something wrong with the cup hence the placement. I am seeing a new surgeon, the one that did my knee replacement 4 weeks ago on the same leg. My knee is ecellent and I am very pleased with the results.
My question is if anyone out there has had this experience and if so what insights one might have .

                   Thank you, Ann

I'm in pain right now nearly three years after total hip replacement.  That's why I came here, to join the chorus and commiserate.  I'm not in pain and discomfort every day, but this just doesn't seem right and it depresses and scares me.  I've tred acupunture and I don't want to go on pain killers.  Also, I'm eating too much Advil.

     Hi Everybody,

I had a three phase bone scan. This consists of being injected with a radioactive fluid (YIKES) and then after three and a half hours
they do the scan. I am convinced that there is something wrong with the cup . I too am hooked on Advil, which does little to nothing.  I started taking
Neurontin which is supposed help with the nerve endings. I started taking it about ten days ago and it takes two weeks to build up in the blood stream and then they have to increase the dosage.
I let you know what the radiologist has discovered and how we will proceed. If anyone else has insight please post
.Thank you, Ann
