I too was expiriencing pain in my hip following a total hip replacement, after leaving he dr that performed the surgery because he was making me think I was crazy and he couldn't do anything. I went to a specialist who diagnosed me with a femural neuroma, the dr that performed the surgery severed the nerve that is suppose to be protected during surgery. he gave me an injection in the nerve and the pain stopped, now I have to see a plastic surgeon who specializes in nerve damage to have it repaired. my hip replacement was in 3/10, just got relief in 6/12 SMH...you put all of the trust in your dr. Thank god for Dr. Finn at Weiss Memorial Hosp. in Chicago..if you are near by check him out..he is truly awesome, he ran his finger down my scar and a pain shot through my thigh right where I was expiriencing all of my pain...Surgery should be in the next few weeks...I hope you all find relief ...Barbara

I moved to Alberta from Ontario in 2009,,my hip fracture occured while visiting in Ontario and they say there are cracks in the health care system,,my opinion and that of a social worker is the fact Alberta has a canyon in health care so I suffer and plan to move back to Ontario where 99 % of Dr,s listen and treat you with empathy, sympathy and knowledge of your issues,,sad that a person cannot live in the richest province and get such poor medical care

Hello...my name is Cathe', and I am 77 yrs old, have had 2 total replacements, 5 yr ago, and 3 yrs ago.  Never was able to walk any distance after the first because of the discomfort, but was able to do most else.  After the 2nd,  was very limited.  about 6 months ago, pain in the 2nd hip was so bad, was nearly unable to walk with out cane.  About 3 months ago, saw the Dr that proformed the surgery, said all was fine.........2 months ago, I saw my family Dr......he priscribed Physical Therpy.......I was very doubtful, but what the heck, will try it, as I felt positive I would need further surgery on the last hip........very very painful, I say it is like a tooth ach, throbing.........could not sleep on that hip at all.........I gave it a shot, and believe me it HELPED!  I am going on nearly 2 months of treatment, 3 times a week, and do the exercises at home daily...2-3 times a day.  I do not take any pain meds.  Did try Aleve and Tynanol, no relief........Before I started Physical Therpy, I had even started using a walker........no cane or walker now.  I had called the Dr that did the surgery about 2 yrs ago to find out what type of hip replacement I had, called AND wrote, no reply.  Was not a happy camper...........look into Physical Therpy,. you will need a Dr's order to do so.

I too suffered for two years, after going to a specialist in this field Dr. Henry Finn, it was found that the dr who did my hip replacement cut the femural nerve, causing a femural neuroma (severed nerve embedded itself in my tissue and muscle) Dr. Finn ran his finger down the scar and it felt lke an electric shock also my telling him my semptoms..hurting when i woeld bend over (by the nerve being embedded it was pulling in the muscle when I would stand up). I was then referred to to Dr. Laurence Zacharya plastic surgeon who specializes in neve repair. I had the repair done on July 20 and havn't felt like this in 2 years since surgery. There is a limits of liability for the state of illinois if you want to sue your dr...This is a nerve they are to protect and it was not done, therefore he was making me feel like I was crazy and sending me for unnecessary tests...there is also a recall on the stryker hip implants. I hope this helps someone...

I had a THR 6 months ago, and cannot walk without a cane. During therapy, or any time I put pressure on that leg, I have severe pain. Finally after my therapist sent a request to my surgeon, he has prescribed an EMG. I hope this test can give us some insight to the reason for the pain, and that I can find a physician like yours in the Pittsburgh area. Thank you for sharing your information.

I had a double total hip replacement due to Avascular Necrosis which took both my hips.  Horribly painful condition.  Both surgurerys went fine but now 3 years after Im starting to have severe pain in both.  I have to have x-rays and other tests ran so I dont know what is anything is wrong.  Im just glad to see Im not the only one out there who is having these problems.  We shall see what the tests reveal, I hope they see something and dont think Im crazy as well

I would advise you to change your consultant and your GP. You are quite entitled to do this and use the NHS not private. Pain relief is available if you really need this. It is your right to be free of pain. Have you ever tried Gabapentin?
