Oh dear.  Well, go to the doctor of course, but trying seeing if it is your sciatic nerve or your hip joint. Try Tylenol or some muscle relaxers. I have been having pains in my left hip for about a week now. Kneeling, bending, walking a lot and sometimes standing, and when I sit. It feels like I am getting stabbed with a kitchen knife. I have to be walking or going up steps some before it starts to hurt, then I just want to lay down and cry, but laying down it hurts. I tried Tylenol and it worked once, then It didn't work after that. I am starting to think that it might be a muscle issue but I am 14 almost 15 so...  Just try a few pain meds and such until you can visit a doctor.

As much as seeing a doctor would be great, just try to take some Tylenol or some muscle relaxers. I played soccer and I'm 14. I have Tibial Torsion an it was a horrible pain if I landed wrong and when I have a growth spurt. Just try to take it easy until your parents get some sense knocked into them.

Poop makes it better, i went to my doctor and he said that rubbing your own poop on the joint area you have problems with will acually help it recover because your poop has many fibers and vitamins in it to make it better and have less pain : )

I found this link, maybe it will help you, too. I have been having the same sharp, stabbing, intense pains in my left hip, extending all the way down to my ankle. It also gets sore when I lay on my side, which I usually do because I'm pregnant. Hope this helps:

Hi,

I had this same type of pain about 5 years ago and it would only happen periodically (sometimes not for a month or two) and when it did hit it would be for short bursts that felt almost like a really really bad cramp or knife jabbing - hard to describe. 5 years later I'm having it again - first episode was today.

If you ever determined the cause or found a treatment let me know. If it occurs one more time in the next month I'm going in.

From my research the most likely culprit for me is:

Most searches bring up symptoms of appendix related problems and I know that this isn't the case since I had it 5 years ago...

Thanks

Hello. I'm 37. I have been through hell with this pain recently. Back in July 2012 (it's June 2013 now) I ran a very hilly run, at the end of that run I started having sciatic nerve pain that ran down my right leg area. I had been going to a chiropractor for regular maintenance at least 2 times a week for a long time. I had him work on that area and I never really could get him to make it go away. Well, then I went to work out (crossfit). I picked up something heavy the wrong way apparently and that's when my lower (L5-L4 area) started hurting really bad which eventually escalated down my right leg, causing extrem nerve pain. This was about September 2012 timeframe. I stopped workout out and could barely walk most days, my lower back hurt as well. I went to a neurologist, got an MRI and then saw that I had a bulding disc between L4-L5. After 2 cortisone shots, the Doc recomended that I have surgery. The shots didn't help that much and they don't like to do more than 3 of those cortisone shots in 1 yr. So, in Feb. 2013 I had surgery to cut off the buldging part of the disc. I was healing very well and the surgery was really pretty great. Immediate relief for the most part in my right leg...nerves do take time to heal though to. Was in about week 4 after my surgery and started have pain in the area above my right butt cheek (to the right of the L4-L5 area). Then started getting right ankle and calf pain again. This eventually turned into what Im still dealing with today, the horrible deep right hip pain. Stabbing sensation when I'm laying down. For instance, I"ll be laying on my back and want to turn over.. huge deep pain when I went to turn my body! And so now I'm taking 2 Ibuprofen every 3-4 hours a day to help w/ the ankle pain and slight pain in my back area. At night I take 4 Ibuprofen before bed but they wear off around 5am and then I can't sleep. Getting up and moving is diffucult. Taking a muscle relaxer (1) at night only makes it worse for my leg/hip in the morning. It's like it puts your body to sleep but the pain comes back more intense when you get up in the morning since it relaxed the muscles so much. So, now it's June 3rd, 2013, and I'm sooo tired of dealing with this back/leg issue thing. I honestly believe I have a disc problem again in a different area or hip issues. My hips always popped over the last 4-5 yrs...and maybe it has something to do w/ that. In 4 days I go back to my doctor to get an MRI to see if there is something they missed at the 1st surgery. Then we'll go from there. I'm hoping for a glimmer of hope in these strings. I used to be an avid runner but can't now due to the pain. I do continue w/ Zumba when my leg feels okay. Ibuprofen helps that achiness a lot. We'll see and I'll keep you posted. Also getting a 2nd opinion in a week or 2 as well.

I too have a similar pain. It's extremely painful in the right hip. I have been under pain management care for over 10 years and they have been unable to resolve the problem. Injections into the hip from the side and from the front groin with little or no relief. Going down a flight of stairs results in intense pain which almost makes me cry. Ice packs applied directly to the area of the most pain give some temporary relief. I don't know if anyone has looked at PIRIFORMIS SYNDROME as relating to there individual problem. Unfortunately it doesn't apply to mine. I take some heavy medications on a daily basis and they do almost nothing for this problem. Vicodin, Percoset, Lyrica, nothing touches it. No position really helps although sitting with an ice pack, as I said, offers some relief. I hope someone, somewhere discovers what the cause and treatment for this new pain is.

I have a similar pain. I work at your standard fast food restaurant so standing and running around the store without sitting down for 7 or 8 hours is completely normal. I've had this pain before but only when trying to lay on my stomach in my sleep. This time it was intensified after I got off break at work. I couldn't lean on my right leg much at all and had a terrible time walking.  At first it almost felt like my lower back but it affected my leg more than anything. It feels like it desperately needs to be popped if that makes any sense. I've never had any severe leg injuries just the usual few times I've sprained my ankle. I'm only 18 but it feels like I'm an old arthritic woman. I asked my mom who's a former nurse and she mentioned maybe I need some shoe inserts for my work shoes but I have no idea.

I am a yoga instructor and woke up with this sharp shooting pain in my inner groin, hip socket and glute area. I figured it was either the psoas muscle or piriformis muscle strained.

Hi I am having the same pain you describe. About three months ago I found out I have a slight labreal tear in the hip/groin region. I was considering the surgery but in the mean time I was going about my normal routine minus the exercise. Recently, I started having sharp pains as you described in my other leg. I went to the doctor and he advise me that the overcompensation on the "good" leg could be causing a hernia. Therefore he prescribed me Methyprednisolone, which is a steroid to help with any inflammation. It has been 4 days and the pain has reduced tremendously however I am still feeling tingles in my thigh and butt areas. Hopefully this helps the pain go away all together but we will see what happens.

The most thing a doctor can do is go on what his or her patient tells them. I am seeing a rheumatologist who is currently treating me for Connective Tissue Disorder and RA. There is never a day when I do not feel pain. I am currently taking methotrexate and have for about 4 months. It does nothing for me and on my next visit I am planning on telling my doctor that it is not working. Cold air makes the pain worst, but who want to be hot all the time. I mean the summer heat is great but I can only stay outside for a short period of time. Sometime a warm soak bath is calming, but you can't stay in the tub forever, right! As we speak I am experiencing the sharp pain in my right hip. Can't deny the hurt and if someone else is around they notice the change in my facial expression. The first thing they ask is, what's wrong? The pain usually starts when ever I have a long drive. I know I will be flared on my next doctors visit because it is just about 4 hours away. Looking and not looking forward to my next visit. I received a pamphlet from Bristol-Myers Squibb about Orencia (abatacept). I plan on asking my doctor about it. Hope you feel better
