Hi, I'm 52 and my pain is near identical to yours. It started this past year. I had a couple of episodes and then forgot about it until it hit me again today. It's like someone is sticking a giant needle into my hip bone and today is was in the back, but same hip area. It is shocking and the pulses are rapid. It takes my breath away, and nearly drops me to the floor instantly. And I have no control over my response, which is to gasp and sorta yelp. :( It does that multiple times and then goes away for a while. Nothing stops it.

This may sound weird but im 20 and it just started happening to me a few days ago. And i believe from what ive gathered that its an increase in masturbation. Just a thought. Try not masturbating or "finishing" as often

It started with me too and now it's been going on for abt 6 weeks. When I try to take a deep breath it strikes me violently, bend, sit, walk or trying to get into bed. Went to de Dr. and she told me my right hip joint is inflammated. ? She couldn't tell me why I got it or wosrse what started it. Mine is like a needle and at the same time a toothache like pain that never stops. Nxt week I will have to go again because i didn't want to visit her agn because she took my leg and it was a nightmare when she was manuoevring it. My god what a pain that tears came out of my eyes and I wasn't even crying. Right now? Prednison but no tests made to see what is going on with me. Anyone

I have begun to have something similar - in my right "hip" (I say hip but it's probably more the right butt check) - intense, short-lived, nerve-like pain. I spend a lot of time sitting doing transcription and my right foot is on a pedal in a flexed position most of the time.

Perhaps deep physio or massage together with an anti-inflammatory like magnesium might help once x-rays clear any possible fractures?

Did you ever find an explanation? I've read through several posts and your's most similarly applies to me. My hip pain is exactly as you describe it - almost like an electrical impulse, lasts for a few seconds then goes away. Sometimes I have it once per day, once per week or 3 times in one day. And it comes out of the blue. I literally lose my breath because it's like I'm being stabbed.

Did you ever find out anything to this? Mine is exactly as you describe..it's a shocking, rapid pain that literally makes me gasp because it comes out of nowhere. Nothing I do helps. I have to just bear through it. It goes away and might not come back for days but then out of nowhere, boom, there it is. .

Hi - unfortunately the moderator removed the web address I included - sorry wasn't aware that they weren't allowed and I have nothing to do with the site included. But if you google for piriformis syndrome I think this actually describes what most people here are experiencing as the symptoms seem identical. If there are no fractures then perhaps stretching of this muscle (which is really hard because it's in a really awkward position and as an ex-dancer I'm fairly flexible so don't feel it much at all!), physiotherapy, massage, anti-inflammatories or magnesium, or chiropractic might help.

there are actually several causes that might cause the pain like arthritis, fractures, the inflammation of the sacs that protect the muscles and tendons, or irritation of the tendons itself. also, the long-term use of steroids could cause the pain.
