Have you noticed how many persons posted that have gone to docs with no results and often no dx? I find it helps to do some research in advance because the 5 mins you get in the office with the doc are usually wasted without it. Have thoughts and questions prepared. Drs are just human and often dont have a clue and more often are not as motivated to find an answer as the pt in pain.

I have similar symptoms, but only rescently have gotten mine in the last 3 to 4 months.  I even feel the odd sharp squeezing pain in my neck as well.  The only cause that i can come up with so far that causes this intense pain on the right side of my hip is im embarrassed to say is constipation.  Every time i have not gone for at least one #2 a day the pain seems to intensify.  I notice the pain more when i sit down for long periods of times and when i stand straight up for a long period of time.  So the only cause for the pain i have came up with is being constipated cause everytime i go for a #2 the pain disappears for a few hours.  Doctors know nothing as of right now.  I also get the odd swelling feeling right where my bone is on right side of hip, hurts to sit sometimes.  Always thought i just popped my ribs out of place again but nope no cause found yet.

I have occasional sharp stabbing pain and it can last from 2 minutes to all day. It all depends on FOUR FACTORS listed in order of importance:
1. have i done hip exercises rotating my hip inward circle then outward circle swinging my leg as far forward and back as i can without it hurting of course and i do this for 5-10 seconds or rotations depending on how comfortable it is. when I finish i have no pain in minutes.
2. have i taken my calcium magnesium zinc d3 vitamin as well as my joint supplement. I have settled on the triple strength box at walmart its two 80 count bottles it states take 2 a day i take 3-4 or i have the pain. I finish off with olive oil a table spoon twice a day two separate times and i use it to cook on most all my food because its great for joints and overall health.
3. have I been sitting in wierd postion i.e. favoring one side or leaning one way to much wether it is forward or backward or to a side i cant hold a position for more than a few minutes. writing this post i have to stop and bring the keyboard closer to me to change postion to stop any pain from coming later on because ik one postion being held will lead to pain later may be 20 minutes may be 4 hours but it will happen.
4. did i stretch my hip joints in the aforementioned fashion and also my favorite side to side stretch i learned from football hands on ground feet very very very wide both facing forward and you lean hips side to side you will feel it stretch and work the joint. I do the hip stretches twice during my full stretch before a workout.

DO these things and Your pain will go away. if it does not because i havent had pain in bout 3 weeks now following these steps. if it does not go away then you have a serious problem and need a xray and tests to see which bloodvessels arnt working or if your hip joint is just done.

I am 26 years old and have rheumatoid arthritis since I was 14. My diagnoses took awhile because the doctors were convinced that I couldn't possible have arthritis already. While waiting for decisions to be made, I ended up in a wheelchair. The pain that I had was almost exactly what you are describing, along with most of the reply posts, only the pain was non-stop making it hard to even attempt walking. I was perscribed Enbrel and methotrexate, which got me up and going in no time. Now that I'm older I still have small flare ups from time to time. In order to have children I have been off my medicines for over 2 years and feeling good. The only issue that I"m having now is my right hip. That very same pain is back. Not continuous like it was when I was younger but if I lay in bed wrong or take the wrong step it sends a pain like no other into my hip and lower back. I have spoken with my rheumatologists several times about my right hip and he has done xrays but nothing ever shows. He measured my legs and found that I do have one leg slightly longer than the other which could be effecting the hip. He suggested a small insert in my shoe to the leg that was shorter, however I haven't found one yet that wasn't too thick. The pain is the worst it has been in a very long, however I am pregnant with my second and taking extremem medications is not an option. I go to see my rheumatologist next month and hope he has some new advice for me.

I've only just been diagnosed and I've been going back and forth to my gp for 30 years with various aches and pains. I have Fybromyalgia - diagnosed officially in 2009 and a geneticist who was asked to look into my 3 year old granddaughter's dislocations has just informed me that I have HMS and ED3 also. So does my son. As these diagnoses seem to be coming so slowly, I often wonder if my heart is okay (sometimes it can be effected by one of the ED family). My son already has an inherited heart condition from his father's side and I'd hate to also hand him yet another heart condition.

It sounds similar to piriformis syndrome

It is sciatic nerve pain -and a bulging disc. The disc irritates the sciatic nerve and zap, it can be constant or intermittent pain and it is awful. Not much helps except heat and painkillers.
