Hi I am 45 and have fybroids. My symptoms are not that bad at the moment but i have been told i need a hysterectomy sometime in the future as i have many fybroids. I was told that my overies will be kept in and that i have a choice of removing my cervix or keeping it in. Should I hold off having the surgery or is it better to have it while i am younger? I have heard of women who have left in their overies just to have them removed soon after as they have issues with them moving. Does anyone have any advice, I'm confused and getting scared.
Hi Guest,
I am 38 and had my hysterectomy last year. I kept my ovaries as I didn't want to go on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the rest of my life.
I healed reasonable quickly and wasn't down for too long. I don't have very many scars and they healed well, I could wear a 2 piece bathing suit without being uncomfortable with the scars.
The cervix is usually taken out with a complete hysterectomy as was mine. I have not had any problems at all within the last year with my ovaries. Not all women will.
You should do fine with the surgery, just make sure you have help around and prepare freezer foods before you have surgery.
I have no regrets at all from the surgery and I would do it again in a heartbeat if I had to (I had very heavy and painful periods my whole life and have such a better quality of life now).
Hope this helps and good luck with whatever you choose
Thank you so much for your reply. It is good to hear it went well for you and you would do it again, Very encouraging.
