I too had reactions to a cortisone injection. Had an injection in my elbow on a Monday. That night the sight was very sore to the touch. Tuesday the pain had decreased and was beginning to feel better. Wednesday I started to feel bad but was not sure what was wrong. Thought I might have indigestion. Thursday night I took sinus medication and by Friday morning I was feeling very funny. Woke up very light headed, heart racing. And body was hot to the touch. Anxiety set in and I was rushed to the ER. Needless to say my blood pressure was high and my body was tingling from head to toe. The ER doctor said I was experiencing an episode from having too many stimulants in my body. It took 2 shots of Ativan to counteract the problem. I was NOT told to stay away from stimulants. It has been a week and a half since the shot and still experiencing problems when I have anything with caffeine. Can anyone tell me how long this is going to last?

How are you doing now? I'm at 3.5 months since the steroid injection and suffering greatly from anxiety.....

I truly understand what you are going through. I continued to have problems of depression, anxiety, and lack of energy for a month after the injection in my elbow. I also was dealing with menopausal issues. (I am 52 years old). I went back to the doctor a month after the injection and he prescribed HRT (Premarin & Prometrium) on a 25 day cycle. I felt like a new person after a month on the meds. The depression, anxiety, and lack of energy all gone!!! The issue I am having now is no periods and I am wondering if it is related to the injection. This is my third month on the meds and if I don't have a period this month I will have to go back to the doctor. As far as my elbow, the pain is returning but I WILL NOT get another injection. Not sure my post will help but I sincerely hope you start feeling better soon!

last year (2011) Bristol-Myers Squibb, the makers of kenalog cortisone steriod injection drug, added a new warning to the kenalog label stating for it NOT to be used for epidural injection or anywhere the spine. The reasons for this is that it has caused a wide variety of severe heath implications and death.I had this injection by epidural 8 months ago and am still suffering from the effects. This drug has driven people insane, you may read for yourself at this link-

You may also read the warning label at this link-

Many, nearly all doctors are either unaware of this or ignoring the warnings resulting in devastating outcomes to patiants who have not been given the correct warnings of potential side effects. These adverse reactions may be rare, but are life changing and life threatening. If you are suffering from a kenalog injection reaction please contact me in regards to legal _[removed]_.

I went into the podiatrist and was given a long acting cortisone shot in my foot.  This was in April.  I told him that I have diabetes and pigmentary glaucoma.  I asked him 3 times if it would be safe for me   to get this shot.  He said  " No Problems Whatsoever".  I have been suffering with high blood pressure, extreme anxiety, panic attacks, heart racing, fatigue, and out of control blood sugar.  UP until the shot I was able to control my blood sugar with diet and exercise.  I am so angry.  I am not able to function. I am almost up to 3 months now and still am not over this.  This anxiety is so bad I now have to take something for that.  The nausea is never ending.  My blood sugar  is really bad.  Depression is taking over.  I don't see any relief in sight.  He just flat lied to me.  I should of been given the correct information and been give the opportunity to make an informed decision.  Now I am concerned that the damage is permanent.

I literally got this shot yesterday for a cough that wouldn't go away (allergies). I felt fine yesterday after the shot. But today, mouth is so dry I can't stand it. After noon today (about 24 hours after the shot), I feel bloated. And I was doing everything I could to lose weight prior to this. I'm scared most of all this stupid shot will make me gain weight. Doc said it was better then antibiotics since I had been on two rounds of antibiotics recently for upper respiratory infections. I'm so mad! I want this out of my system RIGHT NOW. If it inhibits my weight loss which up till now has been fantastic through exercise and diet, I will be so pissed. They said it was a steroid shot. Not sure what kind, but said it would last about three months. I need to be down to my goal weight in two months! AGGG! I am freaking out. Is there a way to flush this out of my system? Please help!

I have had 3 cortisone shots. One just over a week ago and I had been penis to my stomach for 3 days straight. Couldn't eat anything. Now it comes and goes. Saw the doctor and mentioned it and he said nothing. Like he didn't even hear me. That's why I'm reading in here; to find out how long it lasts! Interesting...

So glad that I am not alone, because I had the same symptoms, facial flashes, severe headaches that I've never experienced before and I feel like I am pre-menopausal (had no periods for 2 months since). I've blood tests and Ultrasound lined up for next week cause my Doc reckons I may be a bit too early to have the menopause (I am 47 yrs old), I also want to delay that for as long as possible. But, most importantly I'm blaming myself for not doing my home work before agreeing to have the epidural injection in my back, just wish I found this network before. Mind you they didn't even mention in their letter specifically that I was going to have the injection done, all they said was that I was going to have a medical procedure done and be prepared to stay overnight. Not sure if I want to have it done again though.

Although these horrible reactions seems common when you read a thread like this it is good to remember that every person who is having a bad reaction to a Cortisone injection and who then googles it will wind up here. The people who get one and don't have a problem will never see this site.

Having said this, I think it is quite likely that you are going through typical opiate withdrawl. Unlike these damn shots which have a low incidence of causing problems, just about every human being on earth will get very sick if they have been taking opiates for a while and stop.

Btw, the reason I am on this site is because, you guessed it, I am having a nasty reaction to a Cortisone shot.

My apologies, the post above this one was intended to be a response to the individual who was coming off the oxicodone. I don't know why it ended up where it did.

Anyway, just to add my two cents. I had a cortisone injection yesterday, become hypo manic, pounding heart, headache, didn't sleep until 6 am then when I finally did wake up I had massive heart burn, sweats and puked.

I know the comments on this site is rather dated but I'm glad that I found them. I received my first cortisone injection yesterday in my foot for a bone spur. I woke up this morning and can hardly walk on my foot and have a terrible headache, mostly like a tension headache. I don't know what's worse, the bone spur or the cortisone. It defiantly didn't hurt this bad before the shot.

I also received the shot two weeks ago and like everyone I have had many side effects from the injection given in mr back. the worse being the return of my period. Since I am menopausal and have been for over six years this scared me. I saw my Gyn and she said that that is was probably attributed to the cortisone shot. However she did all the test for anything else. Also, I put on a pair of pants that normally had been to large in the waist, iI could not fasten them. I am tired, restless,no energy. I am scheduled for an shot in my shoulder, but I will never have another injection. i will deal with the pain.

I just had a cervical steroid injection today in my neck. The procedure was fine up until the steroid was injected. The heaviness and pain associated with the injection was worse than expected. I turned sheet white, was nauseated and almost passed out. My vitals and blood pressure where off. I tried to eat after the procedure and found it hard to swalwith and had a very dry mouth. It has been several hours and Iam in more pain then before I went in. Still dizzy and have dry mouth. I hope things improve by tomorrow.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERE CRAMPS IN MY LEGS AND MY THIGHS AND HIPS AND ALL OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE CORTISONE SHOT AND YOUR POST HAS CONFIRMED THAT.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO SUFFER WITH THIS AND WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS OUT OF MY SYSTEM QUICKLY?
