I was 168 when I was prescribed Singular, Advair, and prednisone. With that trifecta I hit 203 lbs and yes I ate more. They have removed the prednisone 3 years ago and I became steady 185. I eat healthier and maintained at 185. I discovered the only way loose weight is through muscle conditioning. You have to build muscle to process that steroid. This is what I have concluded as well as others in the same boat. Finally, I saw some results and when I get a stomach bug now I can see that I loose weight. Start doing some push ups or invest in a physical trainer to work or create new muscle to counter act the medications. The other options is you decide to completely eliminate sugars in your life. That means zero pasta, zero fruits, zero sodas, (no fun). Everything in moderation unless your job is to be a supermodel. Also, don't have to be looking like He-man to build muscle. Talk to your doctor or find a trainer who will help you with your goal.
There must be a small percentage that does gain and maintain weight with this medication that Singular and/or Advair does not need to report it. This blog affirms it. Thank you. I was searching to see which medication might be the culprit.
Increase in raw hunger...no doubt about it. It’s incumbent of the manufacturer to find out why?
Agree. I’ve been in singular now for 2 months and I’ve gained 27 pounds. My doctor was in shock. My asthma has been under control since taking the medication but this weight can is unacceptable. I’ll be stopping it today.
I have been taking it for almost a year. I have not gained any weight. But I stay away from sugar and white flour.
I gained around 25 lbs in 1 year from taking singular. I stopped taking it because the weight gain was making me depressed. I’ve been off of it for 2 weeks and have already lost 9 lbs. I don’t recommend stoping this prescription unless of course your asthma is managed. I have been receiving allergy injections since that it was triggers my asthma so I feel that I am on a better path without that mediciation.
Same with my 8 year old! I'm very glad I found your post
I too started taking singular 10mg 1x daily about 3 months ago and have gained 15 pounds. It’s driving me crazy bc I take a water pill, controlled diet for type 2 diabetes, A1c is 5, I exercise, and get in min 8000 steps a day. I may call doc see if there is an alternative Med to try.
This is not true. Prednisone does a lot more in your body besides stimulating your appetite. People gainnweight on prednisone regardless if they eat more or not. Prednisone causes you to retain fluids as well, increases blood pressure, and increases blood sugar (again, regardless of whether or not the person is eating more). Corticosteroids work on your adrenal glands, causing hormonal changes as well.
Ive gain weight 10lbs in 9 months
OMG!! So glad to find all of these posts!! I have gained 10 lbs since starting Singulair not even 4 months ago!! I plan to stop taking it as of today. I was only taking it for nagging cough and reoccurring allergy issues. Just hope I can get this weight off now.
I have experienced the same thing. I used to be really thin, but have continued to gain weight since I started taking this medication. My eating habits have changed in that I have tried to cut down on sugar and have been eating less. However, nothing seems to stop the weight gain. It's very frustrating.
What is the older asthma medication with the minimal side effects?
My son also put on a significant amountnof weight in a short time with singulair
thats rubbish. i eat one keto meal a day and snacks and fast for 18-20 hours per day. I am doing HIIT workouts. I cant eat gluten, dairy, corn, soy, grains, oats, high histamine foods and IM STILL GAINING
So glad it’s not just me! I have only been on Singulair for 3 weeks and I’m completely miserable. Bloating is killing me! I work out 5 days a week, could probably eat better and drink as much water as I can all day. I have been having strange dreams too. I hate this for all of us! I quit taking the pills 2 days ago. I’m hoping my bloating will go away soon.
