I'm going through the weight gain with that too.
Hi, ditto with me, too......started on Singulair 12 days ago and was amazed how quickly it took care of my allergic rhinitis and bad cough,,....but noticed within a few days I felt bloated and gained almost 5 pounds in 12 days!!!! I was mortified,....I SWEAR this stuff IS a steroid...even tho they claim is ISN'T......I don't believe them....I've stopped taking it immediately....if the allergy symptoms come back,, I'll just take Claritin, and "deal" with it.....I'd rather suffer with it, then GAIN tons of weight...UGH!!
Wow this sounds like me. I’m always thin. I have also been on it for about a month as my plastic surgeon prescribed it to me to stop scar tissue from building after a bilateral mastercomy a few years back. I feel so bloated and so uncomfortable and starting to look pregnant. I just googled this med and am shocked at all the comments maybe slowing scar tissue around my implants isn’t worth it thanks for all the comments. Eye opening
Yes, I am taking both for just few days now and I can tell you that I gained weight. I don't even eat that much since I started taking them.
I actually am looking up to see if it makes you lose weight. I lost 4 lbs in about a week and a half. Only other thing I did was got a shingex vac
I am reading all these comments. Did the weight eventually fall off? after you quit the medicine?
I am so glad I have found these information thread. I have been on this medication for about 2 - 3 months and I cant believe how my clothes that I have worn for years are feeling (SO TIGHT) I am so BLOATED and I have been trying to figure out what has changed in my daily routine. I started logging and realized that Singulair was the newest med my Dr added to my daily regimen for allergies. I am discontinuing the medication NOW. So now question is I am reading everybody's posts and some people are still not loosing the weight? What is going on with that? I am now more stressed then ever over this.... please advise
Does singulair cause weight gain? And how to stop it?
I took Singular for about 6 months and got off because of weight gain . I did cardio consistently and ate very healthy and ....unfortunately gained some weight. I had no issues with weight gain before. I didn't eat anymore than I did before. As soon as I got off of it I lost weight. My exercise and food intake were the same. It's a bummer that this is astde effect but enough to get me off of it.
Im 40 and pretty small framed. I suspect Singulair is causing serious stomach issues. I have Chronic Induced Urticaria and have taken a variety of meds. It can be hard to pinpoint the culprit. My anti hists can also cause water bloaty stomach but I jist stopped taking all of them because they stop working after so many months. I am also on Xolair. So I used to take Ranitidine which was recalled by the fda. Now I think it was controlled the gassy bloat of the Singulair and now that non of the replacement meds work maybe the Singulair is causing havoc again? After reading all your posts I think its best to stop Singulair and see if it improves. I am also dizzy but Xolair can cause dizziness as well. My symptoms are extreme bloating and watery stomach. I feel like I ate 4 meals instead of 1. Every meal makes me feel like I gained 20 pounds of water. Even water burns my stomach! I even skip lunch some days and barely feel hungry. When I do finally eat supper within 20 mins my stomach feels like a water ballon about to pop. I am peeing and pooping so its not as though anything is stuck. It just seems like there is 20 more pounds of water and it wont go away! Im thinking about getting spme b6 heard its a natural diuretic and Im gonna try that. It doesnt actually seem like fat or miscle weight, more watery weight.
I lost 25 lbs on Keto and only while I avoided taking my Singulair. But my asthma always returns and I breathe much better on Singulair. I already gained more weight back almost the whole 25 lbs 2 months after continuing my Singulair. It keeps coming and coming and I am doing a lot of exercise now because I am tired of being overweight. I have to get off the drug it but the honest truth is I may not be able to. I am all the way up to 306 again after being 313 and losing 25 and I am being very careful with my food, tracking it, exercising 3 times a week moderately on bike/elliptical. There is no reason why I should be gaining except Singulair. They keep lying to me and telling me it's not Singulair but I 100% believe it is. I think I am going to have to make a difficult decision here. Either be fat and breathe or suffer and be healthier. The problem is my asthma gives me severe chest pain. I don't know what to do. I take other asthma meds, Symbicort and Albuterol regularly. All three are steroids so I am screwed. It's the only way for me to breathe.
My daughter was put in singulair for allergies. A lot of the allergies related to dust and mould in school buildings, she was studying for final exams so we had to do something. After 3 months she had put on a lot of weight and was bloated looking. I spoke to doctor and he said it must be due to studying... last November I noticed that her face no longer looked bloated and happened to ask her if she was still taking singulair. She said she had stopped in August. Since January my daughter has started walking daily, she is still eating same as always but weight has begun to drop. As others say all the weight was around her middle including her back. She looks so well now, hopefully she can lose a bit more. She is managing well without the singulair. Two of my other children have bad tree pollen allergies but I won’t be putting them on singulair!!!
Well, with increased physical activity and less stress, the weight drops down as well. Also it is evident that Singulair screws hormonal balance, so I'd rather stay away from it.
I've been taking singular for about 2 months and during this time I've noticed a considerable weight gain. I don't know exactly how much but I know it's a lot. All of my pants, underwear and bras feel like they shrunk over night. I feel terrible. I eat good healthy foods and work out 4-5times a week, but I still can't loose any weight. Because I've been so frustrated, I decided google the side effects of this medication and now I finally have the answer. I'm going to stop taking it and rev up my work outs. Hopefully I will be able to take the weight off within the next few months. Thanks for sharing your stories. Now I know, it's not just me!!!
I have been on Singulair for about 3 weeks, and have gained about 5 lbs with no change in lifestyle. I’ve actually increased my exercise and I’m still gaining in my midsection. Zyrtec had this effect on me years ago, but my doctor told me Singulair wouldn’t. It is the only thing I’m taking that could cause this.
