My wife, 52 yrs, had her uterus and ovaries removed last week, but 2 days after surgery she has a temperature of 37.5 continiously. The operation itself went ok, the wound looks very neat from the outside, she walks reasonably fine, eats fine. Doctor said the slight temperature is common and will disappear with time, giving her antibiotics and temp.stabilizer for a week. My question is that.. is this normal ? I don't beleive the 37.5 temperature is normal and I am afraid something else is wrong.

Pls advise what to do. I just need a second opinion, if this is normal then I will shut up and wait till temp. is gone.

Thank you
Hi,

It is very common for there to be a slight rise in temperature after any major operation. It could be as a result of the anesthetic that was used or from some source of infection.

Treating with antibiotics is standard practice.

37.5 (99.5) is just a little above normal and is not considered a fever. Keep monitoring the temperature. If it rises much over 37.8 (100) then I'd contact the doctor again. It should begin to go down soon. If it continue for more than another couple of days I'd call the doctor back and update them. Antibiotics do take a some time to work.

This was a major surgery so her body needs to heal. Let her rest and keep her comfortable.

I wish you both well, please keep us posted on her condition.

For the past 2 days, temperature is sometimes 37.0, sometimes 37.3. I think the medic-man was correct 100% but I was waiting for the temp. to be 37.0 continiuosly for several days before I reply back to you. But I feel she is going in the right direction. Thank you all for your concern, I will write back when she is stable for 2 days minimum.

Thank you
