In order to conceive you need to know some basic things about reproduction. Every month woman has her cycle and in that period of time she produces an egg that needs to be fertilize (this is how the wonder of life is created). To be able to determine the correct time when a women has produced an egg the best thing to do while trying to conceive is to measure you monthly cycles on a chart.
Monitoring your body temperature
The thing that you measure is your body temperature. When woman ovulates (produces an egg) her body temperature rises slightly. The temperature won t increase too much, so in order to notice this you need to measure your body temperature every day, and you need to keep measuring more then just one month. Once you notice that the temperature is going up, you might even be too late for conception. That is why it is important that you measure your body temperature for more than one month in order to be able to know your precise day of ovulating. Many experts suggest that if you have sex few days prior to your ovulation it will increase your chance of conceiving. Your egg only lives around 24 hours, but sperm can live up to 7 days and it needs some time to swim up to your cervix.
Monitoring your cervical mucus
One other thing that is even better for determination of ovulation then measurement of body temperature is cervical mucus. For some this might be a little hard thing to do, because it can be off-putting. Interesting thing that cervical mucus has very different roll s in different periods of your cycle. When you are not ovulating it prevents the sperm to enter in your uterus. But during that period you can not get pregnant because you haven t produced any eggs. On the other hand, a few days before your ovulation cervix will produce more of mucus witch now acts as a protector of the sperm and it helps it to swim up to your egg. You will notice your cervical mucus to be clear and very stretchy. You can check your self by whipping a toilet paper or by your fingers but they have to be dry.
Preparing your body for pregnancy is also important and if you have used birth control your cycles might not be 28 day long for first month. So give some time to your body to adjust hormone levels and by that time you can make sure that your body is healthy and full of vitamins and nutrition witch is need for baby s proper development.
Try to avoid using unhealthy supplements like alcohol, tobacco or drugs. Try not to stress too much because in some cases stress is known to put off woman s cycle for few days. If you are not successful in first couple of months do not give up easily. Usually it take around six months for couples to conceive and by this time by monitoring your cycles you should learn everything there is about your body.
