The first thing to understand that it is quite normal for some men to have small whitish bumps on the shaft of the penis and/or at the base of the penis head.

"Fordyce's spots" are the small, raised, pale or white spots or bumps 1 to 3 mm in diameter that may appear on the shaft of the penis. They are common in men of all ages and a normal anatomical variation, meaning they are not a disease and perfectly harmless.

"Sebaceous prominences" are another variation of small pale or white spots that may appear on the shaft of the penis. They are caused by the hair follicle being close to the surface of the skin. Again, these are perfectly normal and harmless.

"Hirsuties papillaris genitalis" is another harmless anatomical variation with no malignant potential, this time appearing as small whitish bumps at the underside of the base of the penis head. They tend to be more common in uncircumcised men. Again, there is no need for treatment as there is nothing wrong if you have these bumps.

However, it is important to keep in mind that various STD's can cause changes to the appearance of your penis. In these cases, or if you are at all worried about something unfamiliar on your penis, it is best to go to a doctor and have it checked out. Just don't freak out at the first sign of a something on your penis, which may in fact be perfectly natural.

I've seen little red bumps on the penis before, depending on how big they could be normal... However I got Herpes from a man I trusted, I noticed the little red bumps on his penis and questioned him, he told me they were nothing and that he's always had them, within a few days I had this extremely painful and itching red bumps appear on my labia, only about 2-3 bumps, they developed blisters and so I went to the doctor, they took a sample of the fluid and it came back as Herpes 2, I take Valtrex daily to limit the amount of breakouts and the severity, I don't break out often and when I do it's not really noticeable at all, 2-3 bumps in the same spot each time, a place most guys wouldn't look so they wouldn't notice, as a female with herpes I recommend to every guy... USE CONDOMS ALWAYS.... TRUST NO ONE!!! Cause a girl can hide it very easy

Is it small white bumps, resembling tiny pimples or more like a fluid/discharge that you can wipe off??

Thank you, this REALLY was a life saver. I'm 17 and about to be sexually engaged with my girlfriend and I had to know beforehand if this was anything potentially dangerous. I was terribly worried and I thank you very much for providing this link.

I am 17 years old. I recently became sexually active. I also have these small pimple like bumps around the head of my penis. I do not think that this is due to sexual activities though. I noticed that i had this when i was 16. Way before i became sexually active. I am extremely worried so I have been researching this problem and this is what it lead me to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirsuties_papillaris_genitalis
The picture that the website contains is exactly what my problem looks like. They say that it is not a big problem and that it will not affect a persons body in no way or harm ones sexual life. Reading that made me less worried, but then i researched some more and found nasty pictures of the pimples spreading all over the penis. I really need help in this situation, i want to know if it is harmful or not. or how to resolve this issue. Someone please help me.

Ive had the same thing for a few months now after reading all of these comments and reading about stds i come to think that it is untreated balanitis or yeast infection that causes blood vessels to burst leaving the dot and bump behind. only visible when erect... it should go away if you leave your penis alone for a while so that it can heal, maybe try using some clotrimazole cream for 2 weeks it should help speed up the process, not a doctor just giving you my opinion. hope this helps

i have the same "problem" and i found out this...

Are tiny pink or white bumps usually found around the edges of the head of the penis and sometimes on the part of the shaft of the penis which is closest to the head. Are not a virus. Are not herpes. Are not warts. Are not contagious. Are totally normal. Are found in most of the male population, although the size and number of pearly penile papules may vary from person to person. Consist of a collection of collagen and blood vessels which form a small bump called an angiofibroma. Function to provide pleasure to the partner during sexual intercourse.
