I recently found out that I have pancreatitis. My bile ducts have been clogged with stones for a few years causing biliary stenosis. I had biliary stents put in a month ago. I use marijuana for pain management. I'm not sure how I could survive otherwise. I no longer drink alcohol and I only drink water. I'm on a non fat diet. If I didn't have marijuana I would have to go to the hospital for pain meds in which I don't want to have to go through that. I am pro marijuana use but I don't condone other drugs.

hi, , i may have an idea, do any of you circular breathe while smoking ?? or your sleeping habbits from smoking, or eating habbits.. because i don't know if its just me but i have noticed i am eating irregularly everyday im not to sure if its because im currently unemployed and have no direction in the mornings to wake up and eat breakfast, because i'm always eating around midday, but i have been to the hospital twice for acute Pancreatitis, staying 3 days the first time and 5 days  there not to long ago.

my lipase were pretty high and i was drinking a fair bit the first time when i was put in i also was drinking alot of coffee and popping pinga's while working heavy shifts, the second time was a year later and i had barley drank or anything, they put me on morphine 5mg once in the stomach with a big needle and that hurt like a b***h! and it swelled up like a balloon was screwed and uncomfortable, and then they gave me two Endone's 10 minutes to 20 minutes later after they realized i was still in sh*t loads of pain, when i left everything was sweet but i did stay in there and wasn't aloud to eat for the whole time i was there but everything subsided from not eating and just being on a drip.

I'm not to sure if this makes to much sense to anyone but i found that every time i circular breathed my billys it would attack my pancreas and it would be uncomfortable especially when your eating junk food on top of that because of the munchies.and i currently only smoke i barley touch ciggies maybe 1 a day and i don't drink maybe once a blue moon, but they never found any stones in my kidneys or pancreas or whatever but yeah I'm not to sure i also get the idea some of my stomach pains could be back problems as well and could be effecting the muscles around the stomach and could compress the organs due to stress or what not.

dunno if this helps any of you but at least i got it off my chest because i still want to hear more opinions because its still very broad because doctors still have no idea why i was in pain they just told me it was Pancreatitis because my blood levels were spiking like crazy and in clear pain in that area, but apart from lipase being high everything was normal.

peace.

Hi Kimberly I too have recently been diagnosed and am a 30yo female may I ask how old you are? I never thought I was an alcoholic but I guess I would have been considered to drink more than the average (approx 3 glasses of wine on average daily) I think group support is a nice idea if u still go on this. I'm new to this site and hoping it will assist me with gaining knowledge and dealing with this illness. Hope you're well :) dee

I wanted to give an update on my post. I feel amazing! I truly didn't think u would survive but I'm truly grateful. I have found out much more about my condition. NY bike duct damage and blockage stemmed from having my gallbladder removed in 2008. Since the surgery my health went down hill drastically. numerous EGD, MRI, CT scans, none of which showed the blocked damaged pancreatic bile duct. The test that finally showed this was an EUS and and ERCP. Now that I am post procedure, post stents and taking pancreatic enzymes I feel great. I've learned that much is still to be discovered in terms of disorders of the pancreas. If you are desperate for answers I urge you to consider traveling to the mayo clinic in Jacksonville fla. I did so over thanksgiving. It was a 15 hour drive for me and worth every mile. They see 5000 pancreas patients per year and are considered the best location for disorders of the pancreas. Two new theories into pancreatic disorders are autoiimune pancreatitis (symptoms improve immediately with steroid use) and hereditary pancreatitis. Many small town local physicians are not aware of the complexities of the pancreas. My marijuana usage has been cut back because I'm no longer desperate from pain and nausea. I also tested positive through an intestinal biopsy for celiac disease although numerous blood test for celiac were all negative. I know only drink water, con some a low fat diet (25 fat grams or less per day) and I no longer drink. I'm doing yoga as well because my body had become so tense from the pain I experienced for so long...mid back pain being the worst. I urge everyone to seek answers and if you do not get better, see someone else. We trust doctors with our lives but the truth is the human body is complex and you should see physicians who are specialists in your problem area.

I also ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis about 7 years ago. I was not smoking ANYTHING for about 5 or 6 years, do not use alcohol or any kind of meds except for ibuprofen because i bashed my ribs. I DID have an intestinal/stomach bug befor the pancreatitis hit and the doctors were baffled because there was no known reason for this so they suspected ithat the bug may have migrated from  my guts to the pancreas. They suspected gall stones but i had none and the gall bladder was fine. They recommend no advil, no dairy, no fat/low fat diet (as in heart healthy even tho my heart is good) NO ALCOHOL (this is NO PROBLEM) and if i stick to it i'm fine.  The worst offender i have found to be greasy rich and fried foods. Also excessive amounts of sugar and starch ( no fiber).

I do hope this can be of help. The post from Marc's mom ripped me up. My heart goes out to all of them because i experienced that pain and suffering first hand but not for the length of time Marc has. PANCREATITIS can be  a death sentence so drug use must stop - recreational and prescription/over the ounter stuff too. Good luck to snyone suffering fro it and i prsy Marc is recoveing now.

PEACE and BLESSINGS

You can't get Pancreatitis from smoking weed LOL !! Pancreatitis is mostly caused from Alcohol abuse or an organ injury through an accident, car crash etc

DO NOT BELEIVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE NET

I have suffered from pancreatitis for over ten years.  I have been hospitalized dozens of times, once for for an entire month.  I have shown up at the ER wailing with pain (my lipase level was over 8,000).  Before this disease I enjoyed drinking, smoking, smoking marijuana, and ocassionally hallucigens.  If I could go back in time and speak to myself after my first episode of acute pancreatitis, this is what I would advise:  (1) Never, ever drink alcoholic drinks again. (2) Never, ever smoke cigarets again. (3) Use marijuana very sparingly, and have a supply of fresh fruit on hand for munchies. (4) Eat a low-fact diet, and find substitutes, such as sorbet and sherbet for ice cream.  Do NOT eat ANY cheese, whole milk, cream or creamy sauces or dressings, sausage & fatty lunch meats like salami or bologna. (5) Find a GI specialist doctor with plenty of experience in dealing with pancreatitis and see them a couple of times a year.   If I would have followed this course of action I probably could have avoided developing chronic pancreatitis and a great deal of excruciating pain.

This is an old thread but I wanted to say I have suffered from pancreatitis created by smoking marijuana. I smoked everyday and I am part of a very small statistic. Marijuana can cause pancreatitis, I still smoke nicotine and I have no pain. Please quit marijuana if you have pancreatitis. The truth is marijuana is not a perfect drug and can cause GI and pancreatic disease. Life is worth more than weed to me

I quit smoking cigs and drinking alcohol 5 years ago, I use a gram a day. I drink coffee 5 to 6 cups a day. I then drink about 3 liters of water a day. I eat fish and oatmeal. How did I get pancreatitis???? 2 days before I ate a steak. It has been a week since I spent 4 days in the hospital. They kept asking how much alcohol I have had. They hooked up I.v and said they needed to flush my kidneys. I don't drink tap water. Just bottled spring water. My doctor was more concerned about my pot use more than my hurting pancreas.
