I've noticed heart palpitations as well and I try so hard to chill out but it doesn't work. I'm one week post op from a partial thyroidectomy due to a large hyperactive nodule. I'm trying not to freak out but I get so paranoid because I seem to remember my surgeon saying something about not getting my heart rate too high because of blood clots or something.

I smoked the morning of my surgery. I had no adverse effects. I also smoked that night after I got home. I had a total thyroidectomy.

It shouldn’t effect the meds unless you throw a pill back and then roll a blunt on top of that, might make you super light headed and sick. My question to you is, since it’s so fresh after my surgery (has min 3 days ago as well) that won’t cause an infection right? Like there’s no open wounds in my throat from the surgery? That’s the only thing I’m concerned about is that I won’t heal correctly cause of the smoke in my throat.

Smoked up until the day before my surgery. Had a total thyroidectomy as well as the removal of 9 lymph nodes on 5/8. Got out of the hospital on 5/10 and smoked when I got home. Just watch out for coughing too much. I still felt weird from the breathing tube, but I felt really good otherwise and didn't have trouble with calcium or vitamin d. I've been smoking everyday since and still feel no adverse effects from smoking. My endocrinologist did say that I should stay away from it while my hormone levels balance out over the next month, but I still feel very good. Usually smoke 3 or 4 times daily.

I had a total thyroidectomy on 6/30/2023. The doctors told me I’d wake up with a drain in my neck and most likely a chest tube. I smoke weed everyday all day. It’s an anxiety aid for myself. My doctors were fully aware of my usage. I smoked the night before at 11:30 like normal. My surgeon actually told me to do this because if I were to cut my body off cold Turkey from it, it can cause other problems as my body is used to having it. I came out of surgery just fine. The doctor was amazed at how well my body did! No extra anesthesia was needed. My lungs did amazing. Even said he’s never seen someone tolerate everything so well. I am home and resting with ice. The didn’t give me opiates to use just good ole Tylenol and calcium. I have puffed on a small joint and felt fine. Definitely don’t cough or take huge hits. I am using edibles and cbd oil to just be safe for the first day or so. Have took a few puffs though. The pain is minimal in my throat so I don’t wanna upset it. If you smoke religiously like I do definitely do your research before you just stop smoking it for any reason. Find an alternative source like I did. Good luck. I hope this is helpful to the next person looking for answers.

36 yo female. Partial thyroidectomy. Smoked up until night before surgery (blunts). I’m a daily smoker since I was 18. Told the nurse that I smoked the night before and stopped when i started my fasting. They were ok with it. I have daily nausea issues on the reg and it helps me with eating and sleeping immensely. After surgery the other nurse gave me the whole anti smoking lecture in the hospital of course. Really sucks to not be able to smoke right now bc the painkillers and anesthesia they pump you with really kicked up my nausea and it’s tough to sleep bc you’re in such an uncomfortable position too. I really want to smoke again but don’t want to delay my healing so I think I’m going to try to wait at least until my two week post op appointment. We shall see. I’m only on day 3. Struggle is real.
