also add and adhd and most of these other 'pot-induced illnesses' in children are not caused by the smoking of weed during pregnancy.. they are GENETIC. chances are these add kids would have had it anyway because guess what? it's in their families. and doctors don't always know everything. i got perscribed a synthetic methamphetamine when i was 7 years old because of my adhd and behavioural problems by a doctor. ya they totally know what they're doing.. btw my mom didn't smoke cigarettes or pot while pregnant with me.

I have ADD and I think it's cause is a lack of stimulation and discipline as a child. People who let the TV raise their kids and public schools geared towards the lowest common denominator are more to blame than any mothers smoking pot. (Although I think there might be a correlation between smoking pot and lazy parenting).

marijuana crosses the placenta, and can be found in the newborn's body for up to a month after a single use. Just like smoking tobacco, it causes less oxygen and food to get to the baby. This factor alone affects your baby's growth and brain development. Newborns of mothers who have used marijuana throughout pregnancy cry more. Some studies suggest that children exposed to marijuana while in the womb are at increased risk for attention disorders and learning problems that might not show up until school age.

Some say that they smoked marijuana and their baby seems fine. They might have been lucky. There is much we don't know about how marijuana affects developing babies. Marijuana is used in different strengths, mixed with other drugs and even sprayed with weed killers when it is grown. These factors all make any pot use during pregnancy risky.

Its STUPID to smoke pot whilst pregnant as your putting ur baby at risk and why anyone would want to do that i dont know.

LOOK PPL, THERE IS NOTHIN WRONG WITH SMOKIN WEED WHILE YOU'RE PREGNANT. I SMOKED WEED WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY DAUGHTER AND IT DIDN'T AFFECT HER IN ANY WAY. SHE'S A REALLY SMART 10 MONTH OLD AND THERE IS NOTHIN WRONG WITH HER. SHE IS DEVELOPIN THE SAME WAY EVERY OTHER KID DOES AND DOES THE SAME THINGS OTHER KID DO.

First of all, has anyone heard of melanie dreher? a non bias scientist who conducted legitimate tests on the use of prenatal marijuana...people are so scared and ill informed of this miracle herb that we have found so many uses for. If smoking marijuana during pregnancy bothers your conscience, then don't do it. To spread lies and propaganda to mothers who smoke cannabis, makes you look like a walking-talking puppet engineered by the government with scare tactics. Get a grip. Marijuana has helped women with nausea, with restlessness, with fatigue, with loss of appetite...the list goes on. A big way that marijuana helps pregnant mothers, is by keeping their stress level down. Many doctors will tell you that miscarriages are "caused" by chromosomal abnormalities, but the fact is that STRESS can also cause miscarriages. My doctor told me that YESTERDAY. I had a miscarriage 6 months ago that I am positive was caused by my excruciating mental state that lasted for two days. sobbing and shaking over a fight with my mother because she didn't want to be called 'grandma' yet. So long story short I went to the doctor about 12 hours later and the sac had started to collapse in the ultrasound, and there was NO heartbeat. I am the type of person that has very heavy anxiety and I refuse to take any pills to medicate that. I am pregnant and I have smoked marijuana for almost ten years. I had straight A's through high-school, and I did well afterward.
The first time I was pregnant I quit cold turkey. Now I smoke marijuana and I am having a wonderful healthy pregnancy, and I have no doubt that marijuana has kept me from losing my baby. I have had no stress and I can keep food down. I have researched marijuana for years and I am well aware of the effects it has. There is NO SUCH STUDY that states "marijuana WILL harm your fetus". It is simply UNTRUE.

I smoked pot and cigis every day before I fell pregnant plus drunk alot on weekends (being a young mum it is everywhere around me), but when i found out i was pregnant i quit cigirettes and alcohol but continued smoking pot every now and then. Not excessively like some people here are talking about. I believe that everything has its cons, the food we eat has additives that harm our unborn babies more than pot! sprays on our fruit and veges etc are we selfish for eating them??? My midwife said to cut down and not quit suddenly bacause that can do more harm than the actual drug. We must remember weed is only illegal because its too easy to grow therefore the govt can't tax it and make profit, cigis should be illegal they're the real harmers here. 50 people die an hour from smoking cigis in america!

PLUS all you people sitting behind your computers shaking your head at us pot smokers, get off your high horse, your not perfect no one is. And maybe do some study before saying what weed does or doesnt do to an unborn child. I have and I can say id rather smoke weed than take or eat everyday things out there. Stop being puppets to the government and believing first hand everything they say- its illegal cause they can't tax it and thats the only reason.

CPS wouldn't be my major concern right now. They need proof and the only way for that is a screening when the baby is born. I would worry about the long term affects on my baby. Their are studies being conducted on children of moms who smoked pot during pregnancy.
Such studies indicate that these kids could develope emotional issues, learning disabilities, behavioral problems, social problems and breathing problems. Asthma is associated with this, as well as ADD and ADHD.
Why in the world would anybody want to jepardize their babies for their own benefit. I guess i don't understand.
You may work and pay your bills, but what about that baby?
My daughter smoked up the whole 9 months with my grandson. He is beautiful but a wreck. He can not sit still for more than 5 minutes and laughs in your face when you correct him.
She was freakin high when she went into labor for him. I was totally disgusted with her and her rotten choices. I don't know, it's your life and your business, but if your child has any problems later on as he/she gets older, you can maybe blame yourself.

I would like to see the sources of where these "studies" have been conducted. I did a ton of research on this and talked to my doctor about this as well when I first found out I was pregnant. There aren't even studies out there being "legally" conducted with pregnancy and smoking mj due to the fact that it is an illegal substance, but i'm curious as to what your sources are.

After discussing with my doctor about any possibility of problems, he reassured me and told me (especially with morning sickness and not being able to eat the first trimester), that pot within MODERATION, is alright to use. He told me I could smoke all the way during my pregnancy up to the last month. He suggested I stop within the last month ONLY because it is shown that marijuana lowers the amount of milk your body produces and I do plan on breastfeeding. I talk to him every appointment and make sure it's alright and everytime I go in to get checked, he's told me that I'm alright and the baby is alright. In fact, he's told me I've had a very healthy pregnancy so far. This is my first pregnancy, but don't you think there would be bigger problems with people out there who were concieved during the 60's and 70's?? If it was really that big of a problem, there would be a lot more retarded people out there.
He also told me that being very stressed out is WORSE for the baby than taking a hit or two. The only concern I had with smoking pot was making sure it wasn't laced with anything, but knowing where it came from made me feel better about it. It's also helped me get more sleep and has forced me to drink more water...so you can't sit there and say that smoking during pregnancy is bad unless you yourself have experienced a serious problem with it. Until real, HONEST studies have been conducted, I'm not going to listen to a disgruntled grandparent.

As far as your grandson, don't blame behavioral problems on what went on soley in the womb, blame it on the influences and most likely (lack of) discipline. I'm pretty sure he mirrors everything he sees, so keep an eye on whose around him and their behavior, including your own. You don't want him to grow up to be the kid who points the finger and blames everything on others. You want him to take responsibility for his actions, like you and your family should be doing.

I'd like to point out that smoking ANYTHING during birth is not recommended because of the lack of oxagen to the fetus. So, no i dont think its ok to smoke anything, or take that kind of risk with your baby excpecailly if your going to smoke alot. However weed itself has never been proven in anyway to effect the baby directly. The biggest worry with smoking weed is what it could be lased with something worse. Because more times then not it usually has a little somthing extra in it. Also, most studies that "claim" they found a connection between smoking while preggers and complication later during life, have been found to be unconclusive, because they cant be positive if weed is the cause of these behavioral problems later in life. You have to think of the people out there who smoke more then just weed during the pregnacy. Of course you can't keep track off things like that in a study with out violating someones rights so...honestly there is no truth here to find becasue studies have not been able to prove without a doubt there is a risk. HOWEVER, if you really want to be a mother sometime the right thing isn't easy. It might be hard to stay away and to suffer morning sickness but at this point why take the chance? Even if its people who are using it as a "scare tactic of new mothers" i would say, "let them get over on me cause my childs life is too imporant to risk on what if's" And if you do smoke no one should judge you because like i said they really have no reason to be worried.

O btw the only thing i have found that is potential harmful is that if you smoke while and after the pregnacy it affects the breast milk. The breast milk actually maintains a higher THC level then the blood leve,l and can remain for sometime in the milk. so you might want to plan to not breast feed.
Also i have heard from other mothers who smoke during their pregnacy say that their milk dried up faster. Now thats just somthing from word of mouth because i haven't seen any studies on it.

bbfeet... your first two posts in this thread are appalling considering you are part of the staff.

The fact that you, on one hand, say that you dont know what caused your grandchild's issues, but on the other hand say that it could have possibly contributed to it is just a bit perplexing. And frankly Im being polite.

I would love to see clinical studies and make an educated decision than listen to back seat doctors that moderate a website.

Hi I've been reading these post and it has quite frankly really upset me to see so many young moms doing such things while pregnant. I got pregnant and I immediately stopped smoking (ciggs). I just want to point out that everything Im about to post underneath is what I found from a website (Americanpregnancy) . org. I have read people on here saying " DO YOUR RESEARCH before responding"
so I did now lets see how many of you actually read it and respond.

When you are pregnant, it is important that you watch what you put into your body. Consumption of illegal drugs is not safe for the unborn baby or for the mother. Studies have shown that consumption of illegal drugs during pregnancy can result in miscarriage, low birth-weight, premature labor, placental abruption, fetal death, and even maternal death

Common slang names: pot, weed, grass and reefer
What happens when a pregnant woman smokes marijuana?
Marijuana crosses the placenta to your baby. Marijuana, like cigarette smoke, contains toxins that keep your baby from getting the proper supply of oxygen that he or she needs to grow.

How can marijuana affect the unborn baby?
Studies of marijuana in pregnancy are inconclusive because many women who smoke marijuana also use tobacco and alcohol. Smoking marijuana increases the levels of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the blood, which reduces the oxygen supply to the baby. Smoking marijuana during pregnancy can increase the chance of miscarriage, low birth-weight, premature births, developmental delays, and behavioral and learning problems.

What if I smoked marijuana before I knew I was pregnant ?
According to Dr. Richard S. Abram, author of Will it Hurt the Baby, "occasional use of marijuana during the first trimester is unlikely to cause birth defects." Once you are aware you are pregnant, you should stop smoking. Doing this will decrease the chance of harming your baby.

I hope this helps if any of you will take the time to read it.
