I'm desperately worried. I have extremely heavy periods, and my friend recommended I use a sponge sometimes for going swimming, or long periods of time when I'd be unable to change my tampon. I ignored the idea at first thinking it'd be useless, but then decided to give it a try. Everything was great, but when it came to getting it out, I couldn't feel it anywhere, and inside i was :$ inflamed and really wet. It's now been 3 days, and when I wake up in the mornings, i've leaked all this milky white fluid, that smells really really bad. I'm at uni at the moment and am not registered with any doctors in the area, and home is miles away. I'm so embarrassed! Please help!

...I should probably mention too that I didn't use a whole sponge (obviously!), I cut about a small cookie sized bit off. I know on hindsight that this was a very risky thing to do, but I need some advice as it's wrecking my confidence already.

SEE a doctor, you could have an infection.
Before you see a doctor, try useing some KY jelly to make it easier to remove.Reach as far in as you can with your index finger, and once you find it gently pull it out.It can be done, but it may take a few attempts.Take a bath first, wait until you are relaxed , and use plenty of KY.
Exactly! It's gross but im a sex worker and we use this when its the time of the month! Once again ITS GROSS but sit in the kitchen sink or if your shower has the removable hose, take it and put the water up your vagina for maybe 15 sec and it pops right out! Nasty I know but saves me embarrassing trips to the ER every month
Just remember, there's nothing gross about your body and so long as you wash outside, it is clean. Otherwise, your boyfriend wouldn't want to share it!
It is really helpful to learn about your body and what is inside and out, so you can care for itover your lifetime.
You can sit or squat on the toilet or somewhere you're comfortable. Put your fingers in your vagina just as your BF would, but push them deep in. It will help if you push out as you do this because that will bring the upper vaginal wall down closer to the vaginal opening. It will also bring the sponge closer and easier for your fingers to pull it out.
Simply bend the end of your finger when you touch the sponge and gently remove it. Retun your finger inside and check that nothing else is in there. Feel for your cervix, just so you know where it is and how it moves.
Now, if a tampon goes missing, or another sponge, you will be able to extract it easily.
You might want to have some clotrimazole on-hand, in case you have had a yeast problem develop or if you have an itch. Put it in the container and then in your vagina, and put some around your vulva. Wear a light day pad to keep your panties clean.
Oh yes, workergirl is right, you can use a douche bage or shower head to rinse it out. Whatever works.
Voila! Don't be scared about exploring your body. It is the home for your soul!

Thank you so much!!! I just discovered this method last night and when I couldn't find it this morning I was very scared. I followed what you said and I felt it finally and was able to pull it out!

Mine definitely got stuck after sex and I'm freaking out now.. I started thinking ok maybe it came out with a bowel movement and I had no idea ... but no it's definitely stuck up there because I reached my fingers as far in as they could go and they I got some blood which I haven't seen in a day ... I know you say a shower head will make them pop out but I don't have a detachable one .. is it just the flow of water which makes it come out? I don't have Insurance and this whole thing has got me shook up.. do you have any other tips or tricks about water or how to get it out?is there any possibility it is stuck where it came even be reached ? I will be forever grateful for any help!!

Tried the shower head and nothing. Y stuck it inside my VG for 20 seconds and lots of bloody water came out but not the sponge (it's actually a Beppy tampon). My fingers are not too long and I can't touch it inside me. I don't know what to do...
So I just had the same incident I put a makeup sponge in my vagina and was digging and digging and couldn't find it so I read some of the tips on here 2 mins later got it out.
