It has happened to me with each frappe from there. Happening as I’m writing this. I’m going to check with an ENT doctor. I do have acid reflux a lot. I’m wondering if it’s eating at my throat making the lining thinner causing this when I drink frozen drinks.

This is super crazy because the first time I experienced this, where it has caused extreme pain, was with a McDonalds frappe. I had very similar pains with frappe’s before but never as intense as this one. I was actually driving and had to pull over and stop for a second because, like you said, my chest/upper back began to hurt and worked it’s way to one side of my neck. I also got light headed for a moment. Didn’t last long but scared the c**p out of me!

I have been getting the same exact feeling lately when I drink something really cold, specifically icees. I don't believe I have ever been in that much pain in my life.

I get the EXACT SAME thing happen every single time I've had a McDonald's Frappe without fail. I felt ridiculous even looking it up and then lo and behold there are others who get the same thing?! It doesn't happen with any other drinks for me. Has happened countless times (though today I have vowed to never have another frappe in my life - the pain is so incredibly bad). I agree with a couple of the posts here - for me I'd describe it both like a heart attack down deep in my chest but it radiates up the back of my throat and into my head and behind my right eye/right ear area. Lasts about a minute (thankfully that's all because this last time I thought I might pass out (hence the vow to never have one again). Really frightening feeling. As good as the caramel frappes are, surely not worth that. Wish it could be explained though. So very weird.

I have this too after drinking McDonald’s frappes. Been to ENT couldn’t find anything but said throat was inflamed don’t know why. Went to Gastrologist no acid reflux. Have wondered if something I’m allergic to in frappes maybe artificial sweeteners?

Hi, guest, it's possible that an ingredient in the drink might be causing irritation or an allergic reaction. Here are some general considerations:
It would be helpful to review the ingredient list of the McDonald's frappe you've been drinking. Common allergens in such beverages could include dairy (milk), and less commonly, certain flavorings or colorings. While it's less common for artificial sweeteners to cause allergic reactions, some people do report sensitivities to them, which can manifest in various ways. If the frappe you're drinking uses artificial sweeteners, it might be worth considering as a potential culprit.
Some ingredients, like certain flavorings, could be acidic and might cause irritation to the throat for some people, especially if consumed frequently or in large quantities. Also, the cold temperature of a frappe might also cause discomfort or exacerbate irritation in some individuals, especially if the throat is already sensitive or inflamed from other reasons.
Reactions to food and beverages can be highly individual. What causes irritation or an allergic reaction in one person might not affect another person at all.
If you suspect an allergic reaction, it would be crucial to see an allergist or immunologist who can conduct tests to determine if you're allergic to any specific ingredients. They might perform skin tests or blood tests to identify potential allergens.
In the meantime, if you notice a consistent reaction to a specific product, it would be prudent to avoid it.
