I had a steroid shot done Jan 2016 and now it's March 2016 and it's starting to crater in on my skin.... I Google and it says it's caused by the steroid shot not being done properly. My lawyer friend says that there's many lawsuits for malpractice and for the poor administration of it. I went to the Dr today to get it checked because it scared me that I have a dimple now. The dr says that it's uncommon and it happens when the person who gives the shot doesn't completely inject the steroid into your muscle and the steroid is dissolving your fat tissue causing tissue necrosis, which is death of the skin cells. I've read other posts that sometimes it gets better and sometimes they get worse. Dr told me do not run it or massage it, as it will hurt it more. I hope it gets better : (

I'm very happy that I read your post bc it gives me hope! I had a steroid injection 8 weeks ago above my left eyebrow due to a skin condition I had...two weeks after that I started to notice that my skin was sinking and now I have a deep divit that seem not to improve at all. I didn't go back to that doctor since he actually misdiagnosed me, I shouldn't have gotten a steroid injection in the first place. Never was informed of side effects either! So mad and frustrated!
Same thing happen to me I thought I was going crazy but my sisters and boyfriend confirmed. I was never told this could happen. Had I known I would. It have taken that route! I feel deformed in my leggings
Im goin through the same thing, last march 2015 i had a allergic reaction to shell fish, a quick care gave me a steroid shot. First it was a small dimple scar and now a yr later i have a huge whole, its so painful up and down my butt..leg and back. Im scared. Im assumed of how it looks and i cry when i see it. Im lost to what to do. This is horrible.
The lipoatrophy can easily be treated by weekly injection of normal saline which is cheap and safe.
I had a steroid shot injection to a wound on my forehead by my eyebrow and the steroid must have shot up towards my forghead and it ate away my flesh and now I have divits in my skin that reach from my eyebrow to my forehead. I have been asked by friends if I was having a stroke or aneurism.
I have 4 long divits from my eyebrow to my forehead. The doctor did one round of saline injections and nothing has changed yet
Same thing happened to me! Mine is permanent and ugly. I was never advised that this is a possible side effect. You are not alone.

I also have a golf ball sized indent that i received in october of 2015, i went to the dermatologist and he just gave me a biopsy. I habe had irregular periods as well since the shot was administered. I was never told of any of these side effects!
I came across this whilst researching about the connection between steroid injections and these dents. I have suffered with these for most of my life, it causes me so much emotional pain and in many respects has ruined my life, relationships and social life, I don't enjoy choosing clothes as I dress to cover my obvious scarring (I also have a large lump about 8" x 4" in surface area and about 4-5" deep on other leg unsure whether caused by the same thing but doctor said because it's just fatty tissue it's not an issue!) Swimming is out of the question, and also I also have such sensitivity if I knock the dented parts of my leg! I have felt alone in this, never know anyone else with similar. At least I have found the answer reading your post (as in the injections almost certainly caused my dents)
