I have something similar that I've had for a decade and a half. I found a forum where someone with our issue went to the taste and smell clinic in DC and found out it was neurological. Have you found anything since posting this?
Wow, I haven't heard or read anything about it being neurological. I can see how the two could be related though.

Omg I have this and it's driving me insane. It's happening more an more often and the taste/smell lasts for the rest of the day when I get it. Usually it comes from blowing my nose or sneezing or scoffing at something. Last week I got it singing in church. I asked my doctor and my dentist and neither had a clue! I have tried nasal sprays, rinses but nothing helps. EUgh it is rank
I have the same thing! I didn't see any helpful answers. I haven't screamed so I don't know about that but sneezing, coughing, clearing my throat and sometimes just out of the blue. If I go to sleep that seems to fix it. Have you found any helpful information - I hate it!!!
I quit smoking a few months ago and have had a problem with Phlem ever since. But I noticed a few days ago I started getting really bad smells after I coughed or sneezed and then i noticed my Phlem tasted very nasty as well and thought it would pass and it hasn't so I dont know what's really going on has any one had any luck or related symptoms?
Hi, ive got the same problem, i can smell and taste metal and onions and its driving me mad, ive had sinitus before so im wondering whether it could be this or whether its to do with my hayfever. I've been using menthol crystals but the smell and taste won't go away.

Anyone find out what it is? I have had it for the past 3 days and it won't go away with a sinus rinse! I have reflux, asthma, anxiety and sinusitis. My ENT can't see me for a month. It is here weather or not I cough or something...very strange.

I'm 14, and I randomly got this out of nowhere, honestly being young and getting this is terrible because I have to: go to school, talk a lot. It drives me crazy, I constantly think that my breath smells horrid so I try not to speak all day, I also have a sore throat out of this. Can anybody tell me how to get rid of this please?
I hope you see this message and hopefully tell me if and how you got rid of it I haven't eaten in 6 days every thing smells and tastes absolutely vile its dicussting

I had this same problem, thought i had strep throat. I hacked up a lung one day and actually coughed up a piece of food that had lodged itself in the eustacian tubes in my throat, I still (after 4 weeks) have a bad smell when i blow my nose, sneeze or yell, but it is just to me, Others have told me my breath does not stink whatsoever. I am going to the ENT asap to see if there are polyps or anything of that sort. Hope this helps, Good luck to you!
I got my 2 top wisdom teeth out and ended up with swollen cheeks and then terrible smell in my snot and mouth..smells like poo. On antibiotics as of todayy
The Eustachian tubes are in your inner ear, not your throat! It's impossible for food to be lodged up there.
