I had a hemithroidectomy 19 years ago. The superior larngeal nerve as damaged so that is functioned about 40%. Lately swallowing and speaking for any lengthy period have become difficult.
Is this to be expected? And how can I better cope with it?

Perhaps, after so many years there may be new techniques that can support your current condition. 19 years is a long time in the world of science/medicine.
