This will depend on how far along your actually with your schooling? Are you still a student? Are you a medical student?
I'm assuming that you have not gone through medical school yet, so it is hard to determine what you know and what you don't know.
Lately I hear from friends that they want to become a neurosurgeon - "undertake operations for bleeding inside the skull caused by conditions such as head injuries, aneurysms, brain abscesses, tumours and swellings of the pituitary gland." Posted that just in case you didn't know.
As far as stating that most people are suffering from stomach disease, shouldn't be your reason to become a Upper gastro-intestinal surgeon. If you want to really understand each and every problem of a the patient, I would look into diagnosis. Study hard... and remember - watch the caps lock.
