Sustained Whiplash injury on July 28th

Had the typical symptoms stiff neck for 2-3 days, mild headache.  On Aug 3rd I woke up and had small, partial blindness in my left eye on the left side peripheral vision.  My opthemologist indicated optic neuritis.   And wanted me to see either my GP or a neurological opthemologist.  I asked my GP if the whiplash could have caused this and I was told that it is highly unlikely.  I have read that Whiplash can indeed cause this... I am 54 and outside of this incident I am in very, very good health.
