I have the same problem of swelling and hurt and hot like if they are on fire on the inside, fingers and palm - sometimes a sharp pain in the middle of my palms or along the outside of my palm. They would get stiff in the morning and by afternoon I would be okay, but now I can't make a fist because of the stiffness and pain, sore to the touch. It does seem neurological but I am limited in dressing myself, opening up jars, car doors, doorknobs, combing my hair. I got to the point I could not cook or clean, my husband had to dress me, give me a shower, help me go to the toilet, (i could not get off the toilet or clean myself) not able to cook and clean. I got so bad on my 54th birthday adter a celebration at a Italian restaurant (my favorate) he had to take me to the emergency room, cause I could not move of the pain. They did all the test, X-rays, blood work and said I had RA (Reumatoid Arthritis and Gout) Dr. gave me the common meds to releave the pain and sweeling Pregnasone and metrotraxate and it got better. But then I get the side effects of the meds and found out I was allergic to the meds. So then I had to find something that would releave the pain and swelling . So I went to google and found lots of sites and diets For RA and Gout and they worked for me. No more pain and swelling as long as I stick to the diet NO NIGHTSHADE AND NO PURINES and I'm pain and swelling FREE!

2 nights ago I tried a little of the tomatoe sause I had not had any for 2 years and the whole day yesterday I spent it in bed with a fever, headache swelling of my hands and fingers and stiff joints, MY FAVORITE FOOD NOT WORTH THE PAIN AND SWELLING.
