I had the same problem with the pain switching from right to left. After being examed by two doctors I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). I take a progesterone pill and my periods are now regular and little pain in my sides. I hope this is helpful.

Yes. I'm not sure what I have to do since I have no children. I'm assuming I would stop the meds since it is a type of birth control. It's called Aygestin (generic name is norethindrone) and I was told by my obgyn it's progesterone. I hope this answers your question.

I had these symptoms and ignored them as well for a few weeks until out of nowhere the pain level rose from around 3-4 to 9 (for me 10 being gallbladder attacks and subsequent surgery) and it turns out I had a UTI --> bladder infection ---> kidney infection. Then I guess it didnt all go away with antibiotics but I didn't know. I got pregnant (unplanned but we were excited) and before I knew it I miscarried (very very early). I kept having horrible lower abdominal pain that radiates to my back (like upper butt area/lower back) and when it was at its worst it also constantly radiated down my thighs. I can't have any pressure on it, not even the soft elastic of sweat pants. Went back to the doctor after the bleeding stopped and I was in worse pain and it was the damn infection from over a month ago that resisted the first set of antibiotics. That's also why my body could not sustain a pregnancy at the same time. :(
If you have ANY pelvic discomfort or pain GO TO THE DOCTOR! Go to the ER if it's a weekend. Don't wait. By the time it is this painful it is already spread and harder to treat, so any discomfort even if it does not burn when you pee or anything, go and ask to be tested for a UTI. Since it didn't burn I also did not associate the two things.
