My husband's voice has changed and sounds strained. He went to the ENT and they sent him for an upper barium test. He cannot swallow food without washing it down. I have noticed throught the years he has always washed his food down with water though. On top of that his throat is swollen and now his breathing seems labored like it is swelling more. Any suggestions?

Well,

The thing is that swollen throat can be caused by many things lice bacterial or viral infection, and if your throat is dehydrated by breathing through your mouth all the time. You have to know that this can cause swelling to the tonsils which than can cause problems with swallowing. The problem here is that your husband is having this issue for very long time. He might have smaller throat than others and I know that this can be caused by birth defect. Do you know if he had this problem when he was a child or this started to happen when he got older? He need to keep his throat moisturized as much as he can.

Good luck,

Karel
