It started all with running one day in 2006.
After 2 Years of morning 3-5 miles running and 6 months of 15-20 miles with 20 pounds ruck-marching every other day in the army, one morning, after running for about 2 miles, I felt some pinching on left side of my groin, right where left thigh meets them. 2 hours later I was particularly annoyed by some noise in my class, so when I went on a break, I went to the bathroom and found out that my left testicular vane was swollen.
Doctor said it was Varicocele, surgery lasts for 15 minutes. I did it, but, after the surgery, the pain and the swelling came back. Now, there were two kinds of pain that came back. One was the pain in left testicle, happening whenever I touch it harder than extremely careful touch. The other one was the pain that comes back with the vane swelling. And that one varied in it's amount, more swelling, more pain. It made no difference, if I walked, ran, pulled up heavy weight, or rested, the pain was there. Tight or loose clothes had no effect on it. Pain was usually there, or it wasn't when I woke up, more yes then not. Maybe one day in a week there was no pain for a whole day.
Now intensity of the pain varied from mild dull pain, to stronger one where I felt like something was pulling my testicle, to the extreme one where I had a feeling that I had a red hot heated wire stabbed into my groin instead of my left testicular vane. And the intensity of the pain was constant, throughout the day. The only thing that usually amplified the pain happened to be standing in a position of attention, or at list for the left leg, standing while leg is locked in the knee, when the pain would get stronger the more I was standing in that position, and descended down the inside of the left leg to the heel.
For 8 years now, the only explanation I have got from 7 military doctors in 3 different countries, Serbia, Germany and U.S.A, was that the artery, the vane, the sperm canal and the nerve connected to a testicle came down through the same hole when I was in mothers womb and now when my vane is swollen it makes pressure on other tubes next to it in that same hole where they all descended through and it is the whole cause of the pain. The fact that all those tubes move up and down that hole for few centimeters while I move around makes it more painful. But none of them said anything about what makes the vane to get swollen in the first place. The only advice I got is put the ice on it, and enjoy the ride, like it's a minor bump. The US one gave me some Ibuprofen, but it did nothing for the pain.
Now, after the surgery, I stopped training, but continued to eat the same as before and I gained 20 pounds that year, the next one I gained 25 more, while smoking 2 packs of Lucky Strike a day, while my colleague who did the same thing, minus Varicocele surgery, lost 40 pounds during the same period. I felt like a pig, because I know that they take out pigs testicles to make them gain weight faster. Sweating like a pig after every meal for 2-3 hours, and being annoyed by it made it more difficult, because I was working in a suit now, inside and outside, and choosing the right amount of clothes for different parts of the year was another problem, pants tight around my thighs when I sit, was another, and it all made me nervous and pissed me off so I decided to go on a diet, to at least loose some weight.
And here is when it all started to happen for me. I chose to go on a 'no carbs' diet, suggested to me by my friend, so I stopped eating everything that has carbs in it, mainly bread, baked stuff, cooked vegetables, all kind of fast food, sodas, and alcohol. Since I haven't ate fruits for almost 5 years, that was not a problem, but I stopped drinking juices to. So the only food that I started to eat, or better said continued to eat, were all kinds of meat, eggs, cheeses, and fresh vegetable salads, and lots of water all day around. A kind of Atkinson's diet if you will. And the results were insane.
First of all, with no training at all, I lost 20 pounds the first month, another 8 the next month, and it stayed there since. The pain from Varicocele disappeared after couple of days, and came back only, and only 30 minutes after ingesting any of the foods or drinks that I have stopped using. I mean, I could feel the pulsation of blood in the vane in my groin every time I ate a piece of pizza, or bread, or having a few sips of beer, or apple juice.
And it didn't stop there.
-I stopped sweating like a pig for 2 hours after meals, after walking for 200 yards in warm summer days or after getting inside warm rooms during winter, or while going up the stairs, or tying shoelaces.
-Defecation became easier and more regular. Feeling that I swallowed a basketball ball after a meal disappeared.
-Falling asleep at night became easier, as oppose to not being able to fall asleep until 2-3 in the morning, or ever, and hearing my pulse beating in my neck.
-Waking up in the morning also became easy, as oppose to not being able to hear 3 insanely loud alarms that made my roommates lift the bed up and let it smash down with me still sleeping in it like a baby.
-Waking up rested and energized, as oppose to dragging myself out of bed feeling muscle and joint pain, like the train had rolled over me all day the day before.
-Feeling clearheaded right after waking up, as opposed to feeling sleepy and fogy for at least 2 hours after waking up.
-Feeling normal instead of feeling my face, stomach, legs and fingers swollen like I had been drinking or being beaten the whole night before.
And all of those bad symptoms were part of my life for as long as I can remember. At 4 years old, when everybody would fell asleep, I was rolling in my bed in the dark and thinking until probably 1 or 2 in the morning. My brain was like a computer, until it was tired enough or cleared of god knows what food I was eating at that time. But it probably had bread included in it. And never waking up horrors, and the snoozing for ever, or not hearing alarms or phone ringing for 2-3 hours. Sweating like a pig for any minor physical activity, feeling my own pulse going like crazy after climbing one flight of stairs, or lying in bed Thursday night and not being able to fall asleep, even though I slept for only 3-4 hours every night that week, and waking up like a notorious drunk every morning.
I went to a doctor to see if I am allergic to gluten or something, but instead of allergy tests they did some stomach biopsy and told me that I had Chronicle Gastritis, some cracks in stomach lining, and gave me diet rules that I already followed in the first place and some pills for Chronicle Gastritis.
It all went away with carbs. So if anyone wants to try, be my guest, it may help you. I have no problems with Varicocele rain for 3 years now and counting...
Good luck!
