Hi

I was myself a bedwetting teen (nightly from birth to 13) and I finally outgrew from it just before i turned 16. I think the way i was cured was due 1) stop wearing diapers and plastic pants (age 14) and 2 attempts with the enuresis alarm (age 14 = failure, and age 15.5 : it took me 5 months to become totally dry, but already after 2 months the situation was much better : from more 50% wet nites to about 1 nite per week). I Was the eldest my younger brother and sister always found a tricky way to bully me despite our parents repeated requests to them, One of my cousins same age as me also got the problem until age 14.

My second son out of 3 (14) is also suffering from enuresis. He stopped wearing drynites pants 2 or 3 years ago, he is almost dry when he takes desmopressine, but relapse like some few days few after stopping the treatment. My wife and I are supportive, my first son is bullying him. His room is smelling since he doesn't always bring down the wait sheets & PJ's down to the washer. We have arguties with my wife : I don't want her to clean his room , he should do it purely on his own, on her side she doesn't tolerate leak of cleaness in our home. To your opinion is there a good or a better method (close our nose or do the cleaning), and how to convince him that he his fully responsible to take care of this.

Actually very very difficult to talk of bedwetting with him. I remember it was exactly the same for me when my parents started with this subjects...

Hi Guest

It's good you are so supportive and understand what your son is going through.
As you know the shame and frustration that goes with bed wetting can be overwhelming at times.

There is a good chance that for him caring his wet sheets and wet PJ's down to the laundry is very embarrassing he may feel rather than the rest of the family seeing him do it that just leaving them in his room is easier.

As far as it being only his responsibility to clean his room and change his bed maybe finding him a clothes hamper that is for wet sheets or even garbage bags that he can tie up to contain the smell might help.
Maybe it would be less stressful for him if someone else could take the wet sheets to the laundry when everyone is at school or work.

Like you said even talking about it is so hard and something any bed wetter tries to avoid.
Hopefully he still has a good mattress cover on his bed so the mattress is not getting wet.

Was he involved in the decision to stop wearing dry nights?
I think even thou it will be difficult and uncomfortable for him maybe you and him could find away to discuss better options for dealing with the cleaning of his room.

Bed wetting is a medical problem and in some ways he just might feel he is being punished for wetting the bed because he has to look after his room by himself.

The last thing anyone that wets the bed needs is to feel more stress and embarrassment about having this problem he no doubt already is so self-conscious about it that it could be making the problem worse.

Hopefully with reassurance that it's not his fault and with trying to find away that keeps his room odor free without embarrassing him further he may be willing to talk about it and tell you what he thinks will work better for you all.

When I started bedwetting was around the age of nine, at the time after this happening the Dr. said some boys go through this during puberty, she said it is mostly nothing to worry about and will out grow it. She talked to my mom about protecting the bed/bedding and we left. When we got back home mom said she was going to need to go to the store and buy a few things so the bed wasn't getting wet anymore. Mom came home with a few things, there was a cover to go on the mattress, then a large plastic back pad to lay on the bed ( I later found out it was a crib pad) and then it happened. Mom took out a pack of Overnight Baby Diapers, wipes, powder and Vaseline Baby cream. I was just looking at all this and mom looked at me and said this is your protection for the bed, I asked and she said each night I would be wearing a diaper to bed, have checked once a night to see if it needs to be changed. She the said between your diapers and the pad and cover we will keep the bed dry. So my mom says we better find out if those diapers fit before bed tonight, she opened up the box and I seen they were Huggies, the diapers had Winnie the Poo on them, others had piglet and tigger and different designs on them, I asked and mom said the lady at the store recommended these diapers for me, I looked at her and said that they were baby diapers, Mom said yes, baby diapers to keep your bed dry.

It can be a bit harder to find diapers for older kids that don't look like baby diapers at local stores.
Not sure how old you are now but If your still wetting the bed buying diapers online might be a better option.
Hopefully your doctor is right and you grew out of it or will grow of it.

I am a girl 15 and just ended my bedwetting from puberty two months ago! When i started my bedwetting before age 12,i was put into cloth diapers and plastic pants every night before bedtime and have been wearing them ever since up untill two months ago. After my bedwetting stopped, mom got rid of most of my cloth diapers and plastic pants, but saved a few of the diapers and three pair of the plastic pants that i now have to wear for holidays and special occasions because i am boy crazy and she is afraid that i will want to fool around with boys! I was in a wedding at the end of October and had to wear the diapers and plastic pants under my dress and mom told me that i have to wear them again under my christmas dress on christmas eve and day!

Sounds very similar to my experiences when young. I stated wetting at age 5. Went to a doctor and soon found my bed with a plastic cover, cotton pad and me in cloth diapers and plastic pants. My mom was very nice about putting me back in diapers. She said if I didn't like them I wouldn't have to wear them more than once. But I would be helping mom so much by cutting down on her work. It would be our little secret and no one would know I was wearing diapers again. Needless to say I was enjoying a dry bed again and a happier mom. I was diapered every night for the next 3 years. And it was our Little Secret and happy time.

Yes my life experience to a T. Older now but a lifelong bedwetter. I never liked having diapers pinned on me every night growing up. I was always told if I had 3 dry nights in a row I could stop wearing them. I might have had one dry night a month, if that. Once I entered high school I was allowed to stop wearing my nightime diapers. I wiLl also note I always struggled with daytime issues as well always having to find a bathroom 15 times a day, and often wetting some before I got there. Anyway after stopping diaper use, which I was never ridiculed about, I then had to deal with mid night floods, every night. Fortunately I was never allowed to remove my plastic mattress cover. Anyway Id often just put a couple large towels over it then wet those before morning. I also would move to the floor many nights which led to too many wet floor issues. I grew tired of this and put myself back in diapers after a couple of months. I was always painfully aware how devastating it would be if any friends found out. Well as it turned out a good friend that had a lousy home life would often spend weekends with us. He slept on the floor next to my bed in my room because I had my own tv. Anyway it was impossible for him not to know. One day when we were 12 or so he sat on my bed and said why is there plastic under your sheets, paused, then said “oh I know why”. I thought I’d die. He never mentioned it again until I had gone back to my diapers in my freshman year. One night we were watching tv and talking and he casually said I know you sleep with a diaper on, but I don’t care about that!!! Truly a good friend to my knowledge never shared that with anyone else. Made life with him much easier because he was just like the rest of my family that knew. I never had to try and hide it from him after that.

I too was a puberty bedwetter, having started the bedwetting past 12.I also wore the cloth diapers and rubberpants to bed every night that were put on me by mom at bedtime.I got used to wearing them fairly fast and accepted the fact that they kept my bed dry, even tho they made me feel like a baby. Then things started to get a little weird!Three months after i started wearing the diapers and rubberpants,i was in a cousins wedding as the flowergirl and mom had me wear the diapers and rubberpants under my white dress! Then when christmas came, she made me wear them under my holiday dress with white tights over them. Then same thing happened on Easter sunday, mom put the diapers and rubberpants on me under my poofy Easter dress with out the tights! My bedwetting went on all thru 14 and partly into 15.

I am a girl,15.Three years ago when i turned 12,i started puberty and bedwetting because of it.My parents got me cloth diapers and rubberpants[plastic pants] to wear to bed every night. The diapers were just like regular baby diapers only in adult size and the rubberpants were also in adult size in white, pastels and babyprints[My moms idea}.I didnt like having to wear the diapers and rubberpants for a few months at first. An hour before bedtime i had to lay on my bed,mom would slide the folded diapers under me,then apply the diaper rash creme, then the babypowder.then she would bring the diapers up between my legs and pin the corners with regular baby diaper pins. Then i had to raise up my legs and she would pull the crinkly rubberpants up my legs and over the diapers and adjust them so they completely covered my diapers. The rubberpants fit me blousy and made me look like a real baby which i hated and mom thought it was so cute when i would go brush my teeth and hear the rubberpants crinkling under my nightgown! Dad called me his'babygirl' when i had the diapers and rubberpants on before bedtime.Mom usually put a pair of the babyprint rubberpants on me over my diapers the first few months as she told me i was still a little girl yet which made me feel even more like a baby!My bedwetting went on all thru 12 and 13 and i had an amazing group of friends who supported me and understood my problem. When i turned 14,i started having sleepovers with my friends and they really supported me by wearing my diapers and rubberpants also! My bedwetting ended three months ago,but i still have to wear the diapers and rubberpants to bed just in case i have a rogue bedwetting incident!
