Ive had a lump on my testicle for some time now, when i hold a torch to it it illuminates and the light passes through, should i be worried?
i'd be worried, you should just take it up with your urologist, i think thats the best bet for everyone on here with a testicular pain or lump.. internet its hard to know what it looks like and people cant really describe the pain, at least the urologist knows what he's doing, get it checked! :-D

Star Ov Fire is right. Most of these pain in the testicle or lump spotting issues should be taken up with the family doctor, men's health professional or local clinic.

However, you may be interested to know that one of the tools to determine what's in the scrotum is something that you can do.

Doctors will take a penlight (a small intense flashlight) and place it behind the scrotum so that it attempt to shine through the flesh. In the case of the testes, they are a solid mass, and so will not shine light through. They show up as dark or black and solid.

A varicocele will show red, as it is a vein with pooled red blood stored in it.

A hydrocele will shine clear or yellowish light right through it, because it is basically clear.

This does not mean that you can conclude what's going on ONLY by shinning a light through your balls... but it IS the method by which doctors "get a handle" on what it is or isn't that they are dealing with.

The fact that you have shown a light through and found it mainly clear is reassuring because it is apparantly NOT a mass. Also, the fact that you called it a torch may indicate that you are british.

I'm unfamiliar with the availability of health care in your system, but I would second the recommendation to go to a clinic or a urologist to take a look at it.
