Yes, it's true, BUT...it WILL get better. Don't get constipated...take everything you need to take to have a BM. Sit in sitz baths. And be patient. I thought it'd never end, but it did, and I'm healed!

I did THD three days ago. So far, so good. I have to say that I did no research about the procedure prior to the operation because — had I read this site — I would have not gone through with it. My H’s are internal, so what I say here may not apply to many.

A couple important tips to pass along BEFORE you do this. Really suggest you buy the following and have them on hand when you get home. Sorry I didn’t.

-Prunes
-Prune Juice
-More Prunes
- Soup
- Eggs (soft boiled hard boiled)
-Gas X or tums
-A squatty potty
-A big bottle of x strength Tylenol - steer clear of the opioids. They will stuff you up.

I was (thankfully) ok after surgery. Pain was minimal because of internal H’s. Lots of pressure tho. More discomfort than pain

First night was rough. Gas was painful and because I coupled procedure with colonoscopy, I was empty for next three days agree with the guy who said to start softening a few days before. Definitely a great idea. Adjust your diet too.

Today I (finally) went to the bathroom. Three days of product up there. When it started it was like an avalanche. Because of all the princes and softening not awful. Uncomfrtable but tolerable and infinitely better than an additional day of waiting. thought I would feel complete relief fand did for a short while, but experience wiped me out. Weird, because day prior I actually went to a memorial service and stood for three hours with no problems. Today. Total crash. Very very low energy.

I am truly surprised and was disbelieving when Doc said it would be 2-3 weeks to recover from this. Didn’t think it was possible. Now I think differently.

I’ll report back in a few days. Hopefully with good news. I pray. MR H

Hi Vanessa - I had the same problem. Several external hemorrhoids. The THD procedure was performed a month ago. They are really JOKING when they say you will be ok after 48 hours. I couldn’t sit for a week. It took me 2 weeks to start feeling “normal”. About the external hemorrhoid, it may start to shrink with time, but the main focus of this surgery is the internal ones. So you may still have the external ones (smaller) but it will still be there. In my case, that’s exactly the same case. It doesn’t bother me at all, but it’s still there. About the pain for those going to procedure, it varies a lot case by case. Each of us will have different levels of tolerance and different levels of hemorrhoids. I was having Advil (2 pill) and Ibuprofen (2 pills) together, to manage pain and swollen.

I had the THD procedure 11 days ago. It truly is the surgery from HELL. The pain and anal spasms are the worst. Ive whimpered like never before as I clinch my fists on the toilet. I went off the percocet after 3 days and on motrin, but thats only because the percocet was making me feel just as bad as the pain. So Im still on motrin almost around the clock. Im eating little as every BM is excruciating. IM giggling too because this all seems so hysterical when I read what I wrote, but the pain is really worse than anything. I say prayers on the bowl and ask Jesus to help me . ( NO JOKE). Im really going to fast and drink lots of water a few days I guess because the pain is just to much. I need a break from the horrifying BMs. I guess I need to take more stool softeners. I told my husband this morning that I cant take this much longer. The pain is really troubling. Guess Ill ask my Dr. for something different.

I am the same 14 days out and still feels like something is stuck in my butt. How long does it take the internal hemerroids to go back to normal after being stitched up?

Tim what ever happened regarding your stitches coming out? I am 2 weeks out and just saw some stitches in the toilet after bowl movement. I know it’s been awhile since you posted. Please respond

Hey Tim. I know your post is old but I just had THD 2 weeks ago and also had a stitch come out during a bowel movement on day 16. Did they have to go back in and redo or did everything turn out ok?

Could you provide the name of your practice in Wisconsin? I am in the northern suburbs of Chicago and having a difficult time finding someone who does this procedure. Would love to get a consult with you. Thanks!

Ya'll are scaring me. I had three surgeries on both sides of my butt cheeks next to my anal/ass hole for horrifying infection. Six months later my surgeon did another surgery to close a fistula and remove the Seton drain he put in during the first surgeries. Now he is scheduling a THD Doppler procedure and after reading all these stories I might want to keep my hemorrhoids.

I'm recovering from four emergency surgeries on both sides of my butt cheeks next to my anal. Six months later I had surgery to close a fistula and remove the seton drain he had placed in my butt. A month later which is now I'm having trouble getting the THD surgery scheduled and approved by insurance, primary and surgeon to get the THD surgery. I finally have it all arranged and scheduled and approved, but ya'll are scaring me now.
