My periods get so heavy that i sometimes cannot wear a maxi pad for more than 15 minutes or so, probably because it gets so thick that it will not absorb. Measuring (diva cup) shows an ounce of menstrual blood in less than an hour- whereas I am told that most women have less than 2oz in a week. So far, this month I have been on my period for the last 4 weeks, before that i had 2 weeks off and 10 days on. I am dizzy and extremely tired. I eat all the time to try and replenish what I am losing, but cannot exercise as I would like to because it increases the bleeding. I have gained about 10lbs this month, but am still far from being overweight (which i read this is more common in obese people... i weigh 130lbs) so I am very confused as to what is causing any of this.
When my cycles are regular, they usually last at least 10 days, but i sometimes skip them altogether. Noone seems to know what's going on. Twice I have had ultrasounds show cysts, and yesterday I was told I had a thick uterine lining, with a referral to a gyno. I have no idea what to expect at this point, and googling only came up with cancer and menopause (I am 25 years old).
If anyone has any answers, please let me know. Also, as it seems likely that i will need a biopsy, what is involved in that?

get you some iron, vitamin c, and B Complex vitamin supplements!!!
I'm also 25 years old, been dealing with this for YEARS! I do have endometriosis and also have polycysitc ovarian syndrome. When all of this started I was in my teens and I was skinny and VERY Active on every sports team ect. I started bleeding crazy, become anemic, and started gaining weight cause I thought I was doing the right thing by eating foods to increase my energy and blood level... Now that I have became a nurse I realized I was doing it totally wrong. Iron is necessary in forming the red blood cell called hemoglobin. Vitamin B complexes, especially B 12, is a necessity for absorbing Iron. and Vitamin C helps in the clotting of the blood.
When you go to the dr and they said that your lining was thickened, there is hormone drugs that they can give you that will thin your uterus out, it's a progestrone type of drug, it's the easiest way and form to get your uterus thinned. A second option is a D&C, which is an out patient surgery, and you are put to sleep for it, recovery is like 3 days with little pain afterwards, and what pain you do have is about like how cramps should be with a *normal* female. I've had 8 of these done. It's not that bad.. But can get expensive if you don't have health insurance. With a D&C it's mandatory to do a D&C to make sure your abnormal thickening has abnormal cell growth with it, which is very rare in young females.
When you get with your doctor, I would suggest talking about birth controls and checking out what possible reasons why you are having these problems. Try to fix them or get them under control before they get worse cause they very well may get worse.
Mine have been as bad as where I've been admitted for 5 different occasions for blood transfusions and emergency d&c's cause I would bleed for weeks at a time and soak through pads and tampons underneanth one hour at a time. My battles with this will end during the christmas holiday cause I'm getting a hysterectomy cause I have tried EVERYTHING and every drug possible to make my bleeding stop and now I do not ovulate at all and I'm in premature ovarian failure.
I do wish you luck. I do wish you seek treatment and find out the cause of why your uterus is thickening and make sure it's nothing major. Keep a diary of each day, how many pads you go through ect. even days when you are just light.. this will help you when you doctor asks you questions, and it shows that you are serious in to finding answers.

Hi Ladies, :-D
I have had heavy periods for about 5 years now. I suffer with alot of clots and strong odor. i seen gyne and he recommends an endometrial ablation but because my tubes are clamped says that this could cause a problem as the roller ball cannot get up into the little nook and cranny area where the clamps are and there will still be tissue there. i asked why this was a problem he explained that when an ablation is done it basically collapses the uterus and the tissue by the fallopian tubes will need to drain and since clamps are there it cannot drain into tubes since uterus is collapsed due to ablation it sits there and builds up liquid and pressure which causes severe pain like an ectopic pregnancy. I wasn't happy to hear this but he had a solution. Putting in a Mirena IUD with progestrone. The IUD will keep the top of the uterus slightly open allowing the fluid to drain and the hormone will help with the lining from building up again. The only downfall was the IUD was three hundred or so dollars. I asked him if this worked on others he said yes. I will be 100 % period free. has anyone ever heard of this before? And if they recommend a tubal and ablation don't do it unless with IUD as this may be disasterous. Need to make a choice now.

For the past month and a half i have had a thickened uterus that goes away and comes back. I went and got an ultrasound on Feb 18th bcuz i was nausea's and bleeding between my periods and it felt like my pelvic area was on fire. I had the ultrasound and they said i had a cyst on my right ovary.
I continued to have pain and be nauseas for wks on and off. Then in April I had another pelvic ultrasound and they said that i had an infection in my uterus and i was given some antibiotics and i thought it was gone but it came right back. Then at the end of April i got real sick and went back to get another ultrasound and my uterus was still thick. So my doctor scheduled me to have a D&C. I had my surgery on the 14th and had to be put to sleep and my doctor said that everything looked normal and they found no signs of infection and now i'm starting to have the same symptoms again can anyone help me out if they are going thru the same thing.
