I am glad I read your post. This morning I woke up with half of my tongue twice the size of the other half. I have gone through menopause and a few days before the swelling I have been feeling a tickling at the front of my face, and still do. It's funny that you mentioned dryer sheets in your post because I just started using dryer sheets last week. I haven't use dryer sheets in years so I thought I would try them again. Maybe that was a mistake. I'm going to stop using them. I don't know if that is the cause but it's an easy fix if it is what is causing the swelling.

I have been diagnosed with an auto immune disorder where my body creates too much histamine. Advil is the worse thing you can take as it will cause swelling. Originally I was told it was an allergy but I saw an Immunologist that explained it wasn't and what causes the swelling could be Advil, stress, hot, cold and pressure. I still swell and take 20mg Reactin and Ranitidan (which reduces stomach gasses and helps the Reactin work faster). I'm still struggling with it but at least I understand why it's happening. Try to see an immunologist.

Did you ever get any answers about your swollen tongue? Was it the msg? My father is allergic to msg, and if he accidentally eats something with it he gets swelling around his moth and tongue.

I have had the same symptoms for a year now. It started with hands and feet and then moved to lips and tongue. I have heard so many frustrating stories that sound so similar. My issue is by the time I get to the DR all symptoms are gone. Now I'm thinking it has something to do with using my appendages with intense pressure. My feet would swell after climbing a ladder or walking around on hard floors. My hands after raking leaves. My lips after sleeping wrong. Still not sure what causes it though.

Same here, on lisinolpril for 10 years and had to go to ER for tongue swollen 3 x's its size, they blamed the med but just recently started having swelling in 1/2 my tongue twice this week in the middle of the night so maybe it wasn't it after all ?

I get swelling on the left side of my tongue and lips. Then it moves to feet then hands then butt then back of legs.again I did not get too many answers, my swelling was so bad i had large water filled blisters, my skin was burning from the inside. But like you I knew what body part would swell next.i get the itch during the night and then bingo it is swollen. I went to a dermatologist but by the time I got the appointment the worst was behind me, but they tested me for phemphigus, the white blood cells stop protecting you and start attacking you. Autoimmune disease. They are still not 100% sure unfortunately I will have to wait to have the active liquid filled blisters tested. But I can empathize as the swelling gets really bad,it hurt and hinders daily activity.

I too, am perplexed. I have been getting swollen tongue now on and off for over 20 years. Sometimes it's months and months between incidents sometimes it weekly. I have same issues with hands and feet like many of you I have been to countless allergist doctors, emergency room visits, you name. No one can identify what the problem is. What I have noticed over the years that it it seems to occur more with the change of seasons. I also have an autoimmune disease called called a gluten disease. This is coupled with hemolytic anemia. However this started years before I was ever diagnosed. Yes stress can cause swelling. At least that's what they tell me. 20 years ago when I got my first swollen tongue my parents both died within a week of each other. Then I had a lot of swelling on my hands and feet seven years ago when my husband passed away. Now I am happily remarried not experiencing any more stress with day-to-day living than the average personthan the average person. Fact: I am probably happier now in my life than I ever have been. So why the swollen hands and feet and one sided tongue. Beat me! I should add that last night I did take Benadryl it did not help waited a few hours then took 20 mg of prednisone today it's down a great deal but I still feel the tangles. I am open for any suggestions

I forget to mention I have irritable bowel syndrome and I'm allergic to penicillin and I think my body's not processing the yeast and it's turning like penicillin and causing these affects!!!

I was given a sulfa cream for a severe burn...
The cream drove me crazy with burning, itching, redness, and irritation....

I now tell doctors I am allergic to sulfa...

I do not want to experience those side effects anymore..

I hope this helps someone else...

I too have problems with the side of my tongue and side of my throat swelling and burning...
I have concluded dark chocolate and or red wine are a couple of my irritants..

I have read about GERD and I can identify with many of those symptoms...

Over the course of the last 4 years, I have had the same issue at least 6-7 times. Most episodes have awakened me at night with an odd feeling on one side of my tongue. Mostly the right side (once the left) of my tongue gets red then begins swelling .It’s always just one side. I cannot swallow easily or talk plainly. I get panicky, thinking my airway is going to occlude. I start putting ice on my tongue but have to apply few seconds, then remove and repeat the process because it’s uncomfortable to hold ice for very long on the tongue. I take Benadryl or Zyrtec and wait it out. It usually takes about 2 hours to resolve. It happened most recently at a routine dental cleaning. My dentist said it was angioedema possibly from the blood pressure med I take. (Hyzaar). There are other drugs like Ibuprofen than can cause this even if you have taken them multiple times with no issues. It’s not fun, that’s for certain.
