I had my thyroid removed 7 weeks ago, and I still don't have my voice back totally. I also cannot sing, or laugh yet. How unusual is that? Should I seek advice from an Ear Nose and Throat Doctor? :-( My voice has been very slowly getting better, but is still high compared to my normal low voice. Thanks

Hi Ton,
Well 7 days is still early and your process of healing has just began. It usually takes up to four weeks to be healthy again. Sometimes in the process of the surgery vocal nerves can get damaged, and there for you might experience hoarse voice or even total loss of your voice. However your doctor has to check your vocal nerves before he finishes the surgery. Has he mentioned anything after the surgery? If you are experiencing improvement in your voice then you just have to wait a little bit. I am sure you will get your voice back in few days. Are you experiencing any pain in the throat? Are you using any medication, like pain killers?
