I'm seeing a lot of good things posted by the younger people under tonsillectomy experiences, but I have to tell you, mine has been hell. I have a fairly good pain tolerance. I've been run over with a tractor, ran 6 miles on a broken foot, broken 8 ribs over the course of two days and ran 4 miles on a punctured lung. This. Trumps. It. All. I'm in excruciating pain, all the time, and the hydrocodone does absolutely nothing for it! I'm on say four after surgery and I'm absolutely miserable. I've vomited twice today, both due to scabs peeling off, and let me tell you it is the absolute worst experience ever. I have to constantly lay with my head at an angle to the right to avoid my scabs from falling off, and even then they still make me gag and retch. I wish I never would have opted for this surgery - strep throat is 100% better than these side effects. I hate the feeling of choking on something dry and flaky - it makes me so nauseated I really do think I'm living in hell right now. I've lost a significant amount of weight due to not being able to eat - yesterday was the easiest day for me, but for every other day of this I haven't been able to drink or eat anything due to severe gagging. I ate nonstop yesterday to help thin the scabs, and I had about 28 glasses of water (full 16 oz glasses) and today I haven't even finished a quarter if my 12 oz water bottle. I completely and totally regret having this operation and I never want to do anything relating to my throat or internal upper organs ever again.

I will also say this! My surgeon was incompetent - he sliced open both of my carotid arteries by accident and my half hour surgery lasted four hours. I needed fourteen stitches. This may also be the reason behind my pain, but that doesn't mean I'm not upset. I'm livid st the fact that I'm in this much pain ON pain medication. Imagine it without!
