Hello all, I am scheduled for a tonsillectomy on Nov. 14th. I am 35 years old and have very large, pitted tonsils, which get tonsil stones. I am so tired of the chronic sore throats and disgusting tonsil stones it is time to get them out. I am worried that my surgery might have to be rescheduled b/c everyone in my house is sick with bad colds right now and I know I am fighting something off right now. I don't have full blown cold symptoms, but a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. This is my standard throat complaint that lasts most of the winter into spring. I am hoping that the sore throat goes away by early next week so I can go through with it.
I have 3 small children and scheduled it around when my husband could take time off of work to care for the kids. If any of you have children, were you able to go back to caring for them full time by 10-12 days post op? My 10 month old is really big and rather demanding for such a young guy! Will I be totally wiped out and have trouble lifting and carrying him around?
I'm not looking forward to it but will be glad to get it over with. Oh well, hopefully I'll lose my last few pounds of baby weight! Thanks for any info and hope all of you are doing well. Also, any tips on what I should buy to have on hand before the surgery?

It's been 2 weeks since my tonsillectomy. I have to admit I don't have a lot of advice on caring for kids, as I have only one, he's 9 years old and pretty self sufficient for a 9 year old. My parents did come stay with me for several days and helped out quite a bit.
By day 10 I was feeling pretty human however. I have had a fairly uneventful recovery, the only problem I had was a nice lovely bleeder on day 3.
Day 7 was the worst for me, pain wise.
THings I bought before hand: instant mashed potatoes; cream of wheat; popsicles; Ensure; chicken noodle soup; Gatorade; Chloraseptic (you may want to talk to your ENT about having him/her prescribe a lidocaine rinse instead); and a whole slug of frozen dinners, Toaster Strudels, and frozen pizzas so that my kiddo would have something to eat! :-D
Also be sure to have tea on hand, if you like tea. Starting around day 4, warm liquids felt much better than cold stuff.
