I had implanon removed 02/05/2012 after exactly two years. The first year I had it, I had a very irregular period, it would last up to a month at times, other times I would skip. After the first year, things became normal once more and I knew when to expect my period, which I had every month. Occasionally, I would start to feel "pregnant" weird: I would have pregnancy symptoms, etc. And that lasted six months after I had the implant removed. Every month, the week before my period, I would get nauseous and bloated. My period once more became irregular and sometimes it was as late as me having a 45 day cycle. But, after six months, I was able to somewhat expect my period and it's only been these last three months that I've been able to accurately predict when it will start again.
I wanted it removed because my husband and I decided to start trying for another baby. We have a 5 and 3 year old. We haven't used any contraceptives since I had my implant removed. Went the ob/gyn in December and she decided to test me for PCOS. Found signs of it in my bloodwork and on an ultrasound. Had one today and there were no abnormal cysts which was wonderful to hear. I can't help but to wonder and believe that these problems were Implanon related. I've been told recently that it could take up to a year before your body is back to normal. And I've done more research and Implanon can in fact cause cysts. I'm on medicine now so hopefully, we'll bring another baby into the world this year!

I had my son in May of 2012 and then had the implanon inserted in July 2012. I hate it with a passion. Before becoming pregnant my periods were always normal same time every month 4-5 days not too heavy, no cramps. A week after having the implanon, I started bleeding and bleeding. I bleed for 3-4 weeks straight, spotting for 3-5 days during those weeks and the rest regular heavy flow. Then I get one week off and then I start to bleed again. I thought implanon was supposed to make your periods lighter or go away altogether. I hate it so much. Is there something wrong with me to make this birth control have such crazy symptoms.

Hi!! no I think implanon has varied effects on women. I had mine inserted April 2012 & had it removed on Feb 2013 because of irregular bleeding. Similar to you, I would only get a week off, sometimes less & start to bleed again. It was frustrating because unlike a normal period it starts & stops at random. Unless your GP recommends something else, the only solution would be to switch BC methods. I know of some women who are unaffected whatsoever while using impanon (lucky them) but as I said, we are different & for some of us it doesn't work as well as we wish it to. So there goes, you're not alone, the symptoms have nothing to do with you in particular, blame the implant! lol hope that helped in some way!!:-)

when you were on implanon, did you have a regular period? also how old were you when you had it in and when it was removed? i'm starting to imagine those two are big factors on whether it will effect fertility, at least from what i've read...

Hi fletch1. I was like you and had implanon for 9 years with no side effects. I had implanon removed 12 months ago and have been trying to conceive ever since with no luck. I still don't have my period. I've just been referred to an infertility specialist and finished my first 5 days of 50mg of clomid. I'm waiting patiently to know whether it has worked. I am so desperate to have a child.

I had the Implanon April 2010-Feb 2013. When I went in for my annual she decided to replace it a few months early. She replaced it in Feb 2013 with Nexplanon. The Nexplanon seemed to send my depression in a downward spiral with no relief from medication. I had it removed 04/19/2013. My boyfriend lives out of town so we only see each other on weekends when we can. We had unprotected sex on 04/27-04/28. On 04/29/2013 I slowly started bloating slightly. Now a week and a half later the bloating is ridiculous, I can start out normal looking in the morning and by the evening I look 5 months pregnant. I am nauseous, headaches, frequent urination, food cravings, moody, tired, etc. I took a test today, which was negative, but if I did get pregnant over that weekend I would only be 11 days past ovulation. So too early to test anyways. I never started a period after having it removed and still have not. 05/01-05/03/2013 I had horrible cramping and pressure on and off in my lower abdomen, which has subsided except being uncomfortable from the bloating. I feel as if I am pregnant but do not want to get myself excited. LOL
