I'm Indonesian and this is a very common thing in my country. We call it "masuk angin" or the-wind-gets-in-your-body sickness. It can cause dizziness, gassy stomachache, and sometimes diarrhea. Whenever "masuk angin" we usually use chinese medicine oil (or balm) all over the body to get warm and drink hot beverages. The point is to get your body warm. Also it's very releasing if you can burp. Some traditional method we use (i believe we adopt this from the chinese) is to scratch our back with thin metal (such as a coin) in an order so that you can see a red fish bone pattern in our back. To prevent bleeding from the scratching, we use oil or balm before. It's a bit hurt for first-timers. But it works :) pls consult any indonesian, or eastern medicine practitioner, before doing so.

I have had this all my adult life.  If my feet or hands get cold (extremities) I will get stomach cramps and diarrhea.  A hot bath often makes it disappear like magic.  I have to take care to keep my feet warm even in summer, but it is brutal when it strikes.. especially at work.  I wear layers of clothing all year round so I can be prepared to adjust.

Today I came to work fine, but then the front office down the hall from me opened up and because its winter here (and very cold) I started to get a cold breeze from the hallway.  30 minutes later my hands and feet are freezing (even with my jacket on) and repeated trips to the bathroom.  I am borderline anemic and I don't imagine that helps either.

I'm 19 now and I have this problem for all I could remember. Just like the rest of you, my stomach feels intense pain whenever the temperature gets really cold. This results to diaherria. I found that pepto bismo helps my upset stomach. I've also passed out once because my stomach irritated me so much. Cheers to anyone who could find the solution to this <3 I hate it when I epsecially catch these pains when I'm in public cause I only like to use the washroom in my house so then I have to either go home quick or hold it in till I get home.

I have also had since I was a kid .. I thought it was because of the cold I endured growing up in Alaska.

I'm a male. I was born in the pacific coast in Guatemala where it's rather warm year round. I don't really recall having this problem there. I live now in California, near San Francisco, and I've had this problem since I was in high school. Probably sophomore year. I've read everyone's post and I, unfortunately, have to agree with all the symptoms mentioned. I grew tired of explaining myself about this to doctors. I always got the usual "take some pepto bismol" or "it's normal". Actually, it's not normal having a condition that prevents you from functioning properly at school or work. I typically wake up after 8am because the temperature is not as cold. If my feet, hands, ears, nose, or abdomen get cold I usually end up in the toilet. It's a very embarrassing situation in school and at work because the AC does give me an excessive amount of gas. It's not only the bowel movements that give me discomfort but the noises my stomach produces during that time, especially if people are around. All this gets out of control because my anxiety kicks in. I'm not at all certain what the diagnosis for this problem is but the following has helped me: -burping whenever I can. -Herbalife's lecithin-E chewable tablets -drinking only warm/hot drinks in the morning. That means a glass of water is out of the question for me... -Spearmint tea with garlic. Other teas do help. -A hot shower, but I leave the heater on and I don't step out of the bathtub until I'm dry. -wearing lots of layers, that means two layers of socks -heating my hands and warming up my belly -using the bathroom -avoiding spicy foods -laying in bed and wrapping myself in blankets -taking a short walk, when the temperature is warmer By the way, my dad and sister also have this problem. My brother said he doesn't have it as often anymore.

I've always had exactly the same problem too, I have no idea why I waited so long to google it but I'm glad I have. A cool breeze across my stomach after I've been warm, usually walking in or out of the house and the stabbing pain starts, a few minutes after I get 2/3 bouts of painfull diarrhoea till there's nothing left me. The pain is so bad sometimes you go foetal, doubled over on the floor. I've often had to sleep with a hot water bottle on my stomach. It seems to get better with exercise and a healthy diet though never goes away completely. For some relief after, I wrap myself in a blanket and make mint tea, it's very soothing. Doctor just said I was sensitive to cold, no sh*t sherlock

I was low on calcium, but not anymore and I still get this! I am currently low and have been low on Vit D. But, not sure if this is the cause.

the same thing always happens to me and as I'm typing its happening right now. I didn't know so many other people suffered from this, I thought that it was just me being weird. Usually when I get these cramps, I wear an extra layer or wrap a blanket around me when I'm at home. I am super sensitive to the cold and I absolutely hate it. Even when it's 24 degrees and cloudy, I complain that it's really cold and my friends think I'm crazy :

i suffer from this too whatever it may be. It really sucks because my whole body has to be the same temp or it affects me. So pretty much if im sleeping and my head or one hand is sticking out of the blankets then i get cramps and cant sleep. Besides keeping your stomach warm has anyone found anything that works?

Same here. If I turn on AC in the car, or walk into a cooler store in hot weather, my stomach would have cramp and lots of gas.

I just found online that fennel seeds can help resolve gas issue, so today I started to take it after meal.

I am Chinese and this is a very common issue within our culture. Consult with Chinese herbalist for confirmation. If you get stomach cramps and have gas, keep your stomach warm and let the gas out. As for a remedy, the best way is to make ginger tea: mince 1-2 tablespoons of fresh ginger and put into a mug, add 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar and mix in hot water. Drink all of it including the ginger. The ginger will heat up your body from within. In addition, rub some Vapor Rub or Tiger Balm (contains menthol and eucalyptus oil) on your belly around your belly button in a circular motion until you feel some warmth on your skin, about 5 min. You should feel some ease after 10-15 min.
